So 90% of the time I play tennis on school courts and they are either medium or slow. Today, I went to play at a public court and the surface was very fast. Balls just come really fast and I always find myself rushed. The situation was exacerbated by short warm up (we waited for the courts for an hour and other were still waiting) and wind started to pick up after 1/2 hour.

My question is, if you are use to playing on a slow surface, how do you adjust to a faster surface all of a sudden?

Any input is very much appreciated. Thanks.

I am a 4.0 on home turf, but today I felt like a 3.0 =/

The easiest way to "adapt" is to open your can of balls the day before (at least 10-12 hours before). they will be slightly less lively and help compensate for the faster courts.

Or play somewhere else.

Or just practice groundstrokes the entire time-- so the next time you will have a better feel for the speed.

Or serve and volley.

Or some combination of the above.
