Do they actually like the sport? Nobody I know (outside my tennis contacts) cares about tennis at all.

Because it's such a big event.

Because they get invited.

Because they can.

Why not?

Actually alot of celebrities enjoy and play the sport. Just because you don't hear about it doesn't mean that they don't play it. Why would they go if they didn't enjoy tennis at all?

Because a lot of celebrities live and have homes in NYC and the Hamptons. And it's the biggest event of the summer in NYC.

To get on TV.

Because being seen on national TV at the US Open is to a celebrity the ultimate expression of Hollywood liberal elitism.

Yeah, if you're a celebrity and you appear at the US Open it can really improve your career. This is well documented. Because everybody knows that celebrities don't really have a life away from a camera. They don't travel or attend sporting events or have any interests.

It's their job. It's what they do - a continuous employment based on creating a mirage for the general public.

Some probably live in the relative vacinity, but if a celebrity wants to go somewhere they hop on a plane and go. Let's be serious guys...they don't think about gas prices and things like how far something is.

It's definitely good publicity to be seen at someone's match or with a new girlfriend.

plus it's the largest sporting event in the countryYeah, but if I had a place in NYC and the biggest sporting event in the country was going on in the other side of town, and my friends were all going and they offered me great seats, I would probably stay home. That sounds like a terrible time. No thank you.

Nice to see Seinfeld and Larry David there. They're like two giggly adolescents, living the dream.

Because they love tennis?

=D?!

They go there because they love tennis, so obvious. And Anna Wintour probably goes because she likes watching Federer.

Because most celebrities get free tickets to the US Open and sit in the best corporate box seats with the best views. I'd bet Seinfeld and David were there courtesy of American Express and were probably sitting in the American Express corporate box seats.

...and they actually like and play tennis. Tennis was and still is to some level - the sport in Hollywood. A lot of deas get done on court.

Plus if you live in NY - the Open is the thing to do during these two weeks. The whole city goes a little Open crazy.

There is at least on Seinfield episode where Jerry plays tennis, so I suspect his and Larry David's interest in the sport is authentic. Plus he's a New Yorker.
