View Full Version : How old were you when you became interested in tennis?

I didn't become interested until I was 16 (I'm 19 now.) It was the summer of 2005 and I was enjoying watching Wimbledon (I'd never watched it properly before then.)

When I was younger, I got annoyed when it came on, because it disrupted the TV schedule and all the kids' TV programmes would be messed about or cancelled.

But I'm glad of Wimbledon now.

Started at 8, coached until 13 then played from 7-11 grade on the school team. Took a break senior year and freshman year in college, now back at it at 19.

p.s. wish I would've continued private lessons, I feel like a missed a huge opportunity.

started taking lessons at 6. continued to do so until i was about 10 when it took a back seat to other sports. got injured in the other sports and picked it up again in high school when i was around 15. played all throughout high school and played in intramurals in college, and now im 21 and graduated last spring.

I played a little when I was younger not much though. Then when I was like 11 I hit a huge serve (or thought it was huge back then) and that sparked my interest up again. Won a private club tournament at 12 then started to play seriously since then. Now I'm 15.

lol I thought that too. I remember specifically I said, "Oh, it's tennis.." then going off to do something else.

Though yeah, I picked up a racket and actually hit on a court for the first time at 17. I then seriously started practicing at 19 (no formal lessons ever taken since.) I'm 22 now and still playing.. hopefully I can get to a 4.0 level if not between 3.5-4 before I start working full time after grad school in a few years.

Haha I think of that too!!

It's one of those "what if" things that always seem to bug me when I see kids playing.
