Tennis socks: The ultimate debate...

Now I'm sure this topic (however ever cheesy or moot as it may seem) has probably been run through the ringer here on TW but I couldn't find anything and its a something that all players (men, women, adults, juniors, low level, and high level) can associate with... Its something that everyone deals with and has to address whether in terms of function, style, or personal preference. It can have as much of an affect on your game as it does your own sense of personality and with out a doubt you just can do w/out them.... I'm talking about socks ofcourse.

This is probably more food for thought on the mens side than it is the womens (or is it) but whats the deal/preference on wearing the traditional tube sock that goes up to your calf vs the ankle or low cut socks that hit below or right above your ankle bone???

Even in the pro ranks theres seems to be the general consensus... but with guys like mardy fish (and in his last year on tour agassi) rock the ankle (or sometimes called golfers) socks v's the federers who wear the tube socks pulled up to the their calf... then you have guys like rafa who does the best of both worlds and pulls his tube socks down to his ankles....

Is it a style thing? Is there a purpose? Whats your preference and why?

Nobody wears "tube" socks anymore. The socks that go halfway up your calf are "crew" socks.

"Tube" socks are socks that have no top nor bottom and no heal so that you can wear them any which way - just pull them on in any orientation. They were popular in the 70's and 80's but they never fit right so they became extinct.

I like the ankle socks because the crew socks just don't feel comfortable to me, going all the way up to the calf, kinda the same thing with wristbands for me. Also, there's that tan line I don't like getting.

socks are just as important as the shoe hehe. But i dont buy those expensive adidas socks they're just a piece of cloth for heaven's sake. I buy a 10 pairs of ankle socks for $4 from the factory my dad knows of.

ankle socks FTW if u don't want an even uglier sock tan when playing tennis that reaches up to ur knees

i rock the target c9 no shows in the thinnest material as possible. love em for any athletic activity i do.

walmartt chepos is where-its-at :-)
any white sock for me, as long as their is no hole on the big toe, hate it when the toe pops out of the sock in mid play :-(
rather pick up the right kind of racquet, then the wrong kind of sock :-)
if someone calls me on it, i tell them that federrer is sporting them, and off they go to find out :-)
