View Full Version : MP3 for Mowing and Jogging?

I'm currently using an MP3 player that I picked up several years ago that only holds around 25 songs and set me back about $130. Now it's amazing how much MP3 memory you can get for that price.
Anyway, it's been a great one but it's now falling apart and I'm looking to get something new to use when doing outside yard work (mowing, string trimming, pulling weeds, raking leaves, etc.) and when jogging on my treadmill.
1) If I were to get an iPod for these situations which model should I get? BTW: one think I really like about the one I have now is that it has a clip to attach it to my waistband, can you get one for the iPod?
2) If you prefer another brand of MP3, which would you recommend I purchase?

I am a Sansa MP3 kind of guy. I originally bought the e250 which is 2GB, can take a memory card, and can play video. I use it almost exclusively for runnung. I would suggest the model below this (c200 I think?). Same player minus the ability to play video (which I never use) and it's much smaller. I saw it at Target yesterday on clearance for $69.00. Tempted to get one just to have a smaller player - it still has a screen, though, which I like compared to things like the shuffle. Super easy to put music on it, compared to the proprietary hurdles of iTunes.

Can it be easily attached to clothing?

In reading some of the reviews over at CNET it seems they feel that the music sounds better from the Creative MP3 players than the Sandisk MP3 players....has anyone compared the two? Thanks for all the advice so far.
For the price I'm wanting to pay it seems like the Sansa e250, Sansa e200, Sansa Express, Creative Zen Stone Plus, Creative Zen V, or Creative Zen V Plus are the ones I'm look at right now.

I had a Creative Zen touch a while back and it was great. Can't really compare to other players of that caliber, my current player is the Cowon A2 and it fits me perfectly. Cowon offers some other players, check them out also:
As far as sound quality, it really depends on the headphones, it's no use if you don't have a pair of shures or something along those lines.

I would avoid using your MP3 player to mow. You will likely have to turn the volume up to an unsafe level to hear the music. If you are hearing anyting over 90 decibels could experience hearing loss over long periods of time.
If you take your headphones off and your ears a ringing, thats a very bad sign. I would reccomend ear muffs, or foam ear plug ins.
That said, the Creative Zen Micro. is great.
