I heard Carillo or some commentator say the Ancic volleys with easier grips than his countryman Goran. What does she mean by that? Is she suggesting he is a little more towards the eastern grip on the forehand volley? I do remember Ivanisevic having a weaker forehand volley than his backhand, so I thought it may have something to do with that.

I do not know what was in the commentator's mind when she referred to easier grips.

What is the opposite of "easier grips"? "Difficult grips"? Using western grips for volleys or using eastern FH for FH volley and eastern BH grip for BH volley would tantamount to "difficult grips". Continental or a version of continental grip for all volleys will be easier for you, maybe we should conclude that "continental" is an easier grip which the commentator referred to. But again, it is my guess.

Let's also not forget not all commentators are expert coaches, so they end up saying things that may not be technically correct.

I do tennis commentaries also and try to balance the factual as well as technical information so that the viewers understand the game and how it is played and coached. My commentaries are quite popular, but at times certain quarters with vested interests blame me for 'coaching on the tv'. You can't please everyone!
