Throw the ball further out in front.

Focus all of your energy and swing path "up" towards the ball, rather than forward into the court.

If you have a tennis ball in your racquet hand, pretend you are trying to hit the ball that you have tossed with the ball in your racquet hand. This will help you swing "up" rather than forward.

Your natural wirst snap will guide the tossed ballinto the court.

Racket should accelerate to contact NOT after contact!

well, thanks. I've figured it out. What drills can I do to correct this bad habit of mine?

Tossing more out in front will not solve the problem.

If you are accelerating AFTER contact, it means you aren't going up for the ball enough. Or your motion resemble pitching motion rather than throwing UPWARD motion.

One drill my coach suggested was to stand in front of fence and try to serve over the fence by hitting flat serve. The only way to do is to go up for the serve, and hit the bottom of the ball. Once you can do that, you can incorporate snap to bring the ball down.

If I understand correctly, you will make contact with the ball by pronating your forearm..

When you toss the ball, it should graze the back of your head if were to land. Strike the ball from either 7 to 1 or 6 to 12. This will force you to arc your back to stirke the ball. When you strike the ball it should be a whipping motion. It took me a couple of months to get used to it.

Sonic Serve references the upward swing before contact as the 'power arc'. They suggest to swing without a ball and listen for where the 'woosh' occurs in your swing. If it's not occuring just before the contact point, you're not directing your swing up and behind the ball enough. Swinging upwards further behind the ball gives you more time to accelerate than swinging directly at it.
