Hi everyone!

Hoping for some help from all you tennis enthusiasts. Im Student teaching for Elementary (1-6) Phys. Ed. right now and we are going to start an indoor floor tennis unit. I need to come up with ideas in general for what Im going to do these next couple weeks with it, or if anyone cares to get specific. Either way id appreciate it alot! Basically I need 8 total plans and each class is short lasting 20-25 minutes. We do have nets for mini courts which I plan to use but probably not right away.

As of now, the first lesson Im planning to get them in control of the racket by holding it right, and practicing alot of ball control activities such as the bouncing up, on the floor, alternating, tossing the ball and catching with the racket, moving with the ball on it, maybe a relay. The next few lessons im hoping to do some hitting on the wall, partner stuff, and then eventually stuff on the court such as keeping a rally and getting to some competition. I just need good ideas from people concerning those lessons after the first day (which is tommorow this Monday!!) Thanks much

Those are good ideas, but you should try to move on to rallying really quick. For kids it might get really boring if you're doing too many bouncing the ball type stuff.

I don't know, maybe you could hit the ball to them slowly and have them side-step, side-step all the way to the ball to hit it.

Competitions with the up/downs - then make it more complicated by going down then up etc. Get them doing ball control relays like bouncing the ball up to the net, and then coming back and tagging a partner. Play caterpillar - pass a ball along their racquets without dropping it, player that passes the ball then runs to the front of the line. Set up an obstacle course and have them run around it and time them. Get hoola hoops and set them up to have kids hit through them from short distances. Play tag but make them only run on the lines on the court. Call out a name of a line and have them all sprint to it. Play spider - balls on a racquet in the center of the court, each kid has their racquet on an outer line, when you say go, they run to the middle and pick up one ball and put it on their racquet, you can also take one ball at a time from other kids racquets, first to certain number of balls on their racquet wins. Have them hit the ball to a partner that catches it, every successful catch they take a step back (also do this with one bounce). Play jailbreak - you should know this one. Play swedish tennis.

I'm sure I could think of quite a few more, but that should be a start for you. There is a lot better material out there than the TW message board.
