This pains me as a Mets fan. The circle of misery is complete. HOW do you blow a 7 game lead with 17 to play? The team played without a pulse, without any sense of urgency, and picked the wrong time of the year to play like garbage. They led practically the whole season and on paper should have easily won the division. Instead they get to go fishing while Mets fans will be watching the Yankees play in October, yet again.

Congratulations, Phillies. As much as it pains me to mutter these words, you guys stepped it up and just wanted it more. Rollins deserves the MVP and you guys earned my respect. We still lead in World Series titles 2-1 and your team has been around for 126 years, so don't get too cocky.

Honest, classy post soyizgood. Back here in N.Y., the press really took Jimmy Rollins to task when he stated at the beginning of the year that they (the Phillies) were "the team to beat" in the NL Eastern Division; guess that gritty, talented shortstop knew something we didn't. When you consider the injuries that Philadelphia sustained--especially their starting pitching--it'd be a wonder if Charlie Manual doesn't win Manager-of-the-Year by a landslide no matter what they do in the playoffs.

Even if the Mets didn't fold down the stretch and won their division going away, the Phillies, by dint of their September record would still have been playing San Diego for a shot at the wildcard. That said, Tom Glavine's 'lukewarm' demeanor during the post-game press conference seemed weird and frankly, it would've irked me if I were a Met fan. He downplayed a lot of the Marlin hits as "dinks and dunks." Er, dude, you put your team in a 7-0 hole even before the last echoed note of the Star Spangled Banner floated across Flushing Bay. (I like the guys in the Big Ballpark in Da Bronx; myself, at present I'm more concered with Cleveland's solid #1 and #2 starters)

I do however feel badly for Willie Randolph.

And now, can we pleeeze put the Derek Jeter vs. Jose Reyes question to bed once and for all?

As someone from Southeastern PA, I just need to say one thing.
