View Full Version : keeping the head still

I've just been reading another thread called "watching the ball" one tip was to keep the head steady.
Does this apply to when you are serving. It would seem impossible to me because your head moves skyward to watch the ball as you toss it up for serve, but then naturally moves
down to follow it as it's served.

Watch Federer for a perfect example of watching the ball. Even on the serves you can keep you head still, but this doesn't mean to keep it that way for a long time it's actually pretty fast, you know like sec or less, all you have to do is watch the contact point after you contact the ball.

Thank you for that tip.

they say this so you dont bob your head on a stroke. theres a difference between keeping your head still on contact and keeping your head still no matter what. either way dont think about moving your head and focus on clean contact and watching the ball. because you cant see the ball if you're bobbing your head all over the place.

Yes, there are two reasons for keeping the head relatively still.

One, is to keep your eyes fixed on the ball, and the other is, when you drop your head, you tend to also fold in your chest and abs- to a greater or lesser extent- both of which will mess up your goal of hitting a good serve.
