I'd like people's opinions on the top 5 lefties of all time, male or female.

Open Era only (since I'm not familiar with pre-OE players):
1. Rod Laver
2. Martina Navratilova
3. John McEnroe
4. Jimmy Connors
5. Guillermo Vilas

Kinda hard to argue with any of rhubarb's choices. I might pull Vilas and insert Tony Roche there, but other than that it looks solid.

They're both mighty good, but they can't make that list.

The question was "top 5 lefties of all time." I'm not sure Nadal or Lopez have proved themselves fitting of that.

Nadal? Did you not see his match against Roddick? If you didn't, your missing out. If you did, then you have problems.

Nadal will get there, but he has a way to go first.

Not sure about Lopez and Verdasco.

One match hardly qualifies a player for all-time status.

Just wait and see what happens in the next few years. You may change your minds/racquets/whatever.

I'd say Nadal has the potential. Even though I haven't seen his Davis Cup match vs. Roddick, I have seen Nadal's talent shine through in other matches. However, he has a long career ahead of him (hopefully) and a ways to go yet, so I'm reserving my GLOAT (greatest leftie of all time) vote for now.

(Not that my opinion matters anyway...)

Korda and Rios are two of my faves as well. Too bad their accomplishments were not enough to get them close to top 5. Top 10, maybe...
