View Full Version : Stepping in on a 2HBH, heel first or toe first?

So when you're taking that last step with your front foot to drive forward on a 2HBH, do you take that step by putting your heel down first? Or your toe down first? Why and which do you think is better?

Toe, because you can push off far better on your toe than your heel if you aren't in the right position.
But make sure that you're landing on your toe NOT because your knee is in front of your foot. If you get stuck like that, then you can't transition your body weight forward on your backhand, which is essential for 2HBHs.
Hope that helps!

Yeah, I always assumed toe goes down first... it felt more natural to me. But check out how many pros go heel down first in the backhand videos:
Roddick, Safin, Baghdatis go heel first, but Agassi goes toe first. Strange isn't it?

I go toe, but I guess if pros are doing both, it's just preferential.

I think I go heel first, but i'm not too sure now that I have to think about it.
I don't think it would make a whole lot of difference.
