I'd have to disagree with that. Northern has a lot of talent, including Wyatt McCoy. He wonthe state title as an 8th grader last year. Many top products of the northern section go onto top college teams.

Alaska isn't a section by itself. It's part of the Pacific Northwest section, which also encompasses Oregon, Washington, Alaska, and British Columbia (although, most BC folks don't join the USTA and they don't have League teams there). There are plenty of good players in this area.

At least numbers wise that makes sense, but how can you have a section that broken up?

northern is defenitely not the worst. This year it davis cup we killed carribean 7-0 and only lost to mid atlantic 4-3. I would say carribean is the worst followed by hawaii. PNW is probably slightly better then northern. Socal is the best up top but I would say southern has more depth.

No such thing as the "worst" section. There are great players in every section.
There are sections that are deeper than others with respect to rankings. Often these sections are blessed with higher populations, thus have way more tennis players. Some sections are blessed with better weather, so players have more opportunity to train. Sections with higher populations and/or better weather often have more training facilities (academies), coaches, etc.

sammer aziz was number one in the virgin islands, then he moved to santa barbara and he's like tenth in the city, i think so cal is a little stronger than the virgin islands

Redsox, do you know sammer? Have you hit with him? My little player hits with him once in a while. He's a good kid and he's improving his skill rapidly.
BTW, would you like to have a hit with my little player some time?

The way it's been since I was a junior:
1. SoCal
2. Florida
3. NorCal
4. Southern
These sections are always very deep for talent. Other sections have strong players, too, but these 4 have always notoriously provided the strongest players, at least as far as juniors.
With adults, it's hit and miss. There are strong players everywhere, but the difference is that some move around due to jobs.
redsoxrock930

C hits with PJ a little but not that often. Hits with the COAC pro's daughter more, she's good, and they get along great.
So how about working out with C at TCSB sometime? Are you game? Saturday is out though cuz he's playing D'Gulio and Pura in the Dubs Sectional semis.

Are you seroius? Southern is much stronger than NorCal, so SoCal, Florida and Texas. NorCal is not that strong.
Southern is clearly the strongest of homegrowns as well. FL and CA may be better off due to imports with TX getting some of that.

SDTennis is quite wrong about the strength of the Southern Section.
2007 Inter-sectionals were won by the Southern Section over the Southern California Section. This was for the 16's division. The 18's Junior Davis Cup team for the Southern Section lost in the finals.
From a depth standpoint, I believe So Cal, Florida and Southern have the greatest # of Blue Chip and 5 star players in the USA. You might check tennisrecruiting.net or the USTA website to check player rankings by section to be sure, but the Southern Section is certainly not the weakest section in the USA.

^^^agreed that southern is not weakest but socal and florida are stronger. when looking at southern section u have to remember how big it is. for its size it is not great but considering it covers many states it will obviously have some good players. socal and florida are much more good players within a smaller area

kctennis1005

hmm thats a tough one...i would say there very similar but then again texas is much smaller than all of the states that make up southern. southern has more top players, but texas has more depth

Of course Hawaii is one of the worse..
And I'm from Hawaii.
But I mean, keep in mind, we do have the smallest section if not one of the, I believe...
and we have the smallest pool of people to pull from.
Financially, it's harder for us to get out to the Big Rock and play tournaments, go to clinics/camps and so forth..

05-01-2008, 04:45 PM
Whoever thinks Southern is the worst is out of their freaking mind. Southern is easily one of the top 3. There are so many good players in the south that don't play many national tournaments and just play southerns.

PNW is just the least populated section tennis-wise. Why would you base being the 'worst' off of the worst players in the league? I'm pretty sure there are plenty of players in socal that are absolute garbage.
PNW has players like Emmet Egger that were already mentioned, as well as a ton of very strong players playing in 12s (that aren't even close to 12).
