Is it me or did Sharapova's service motion, with the toe-up beginning resemble sampras to a small extent?

Sampras was with Landsorp for a while, and now Sharapova?

Correct, she has mentioned before that she patterned her motion after sampras.

Yes, it's similar in that, but not in all other respects. E.g. I think she brings her feet together. But the takeback and the archer's pose are similar.

Check:

for Sampras

and

for Sharapova.

Clearly the feet are together for Sharapova, and she probably has less hip and leg rotation than Sampras.

The spelling is Landsdorp.

Both Sampras and Sharapova worked with Landsdorp, not sure for how long, it seems Sharapova much longer.

Tells us what was your problem with Pure Drives?
I see it in your signature ...
Just curious.

I switched away from the Pure Drives. My 6/10 guys on my team use one. half of the women...... just a celebration really.

I switched away from the Pure Drives.

Any reason, how does it compare with what you seem to have now (Fisher?)?

I had used the Pure Drive for 3 years. I had added a large amount of lead so it ended up weighing just a shy over 12 ounces. I had been demoing some other LOWER powered frames and found them a little bit more adapt to my play. I demoed around, and found the Pro 1 to be right on target. I have been using the pro 1 for going on 4 months now and still havent found a true flaw to it. Mainly, I knew I was growing out of the pure drive, and my elbow was telling me so, and I found the Fischer Pro #1 to be my personal holy grail.

Not enough control and elbow pain?
That's what I heard from others.
It seems the Woofer is not that efficient.

Yeah, I noticed a big difference in control with the Pro 1. The stiffness of the PD versus the Pro 1 is amazing.

updated my original posting with a pic of Sharapova's serve.
might want to compare with Sampras.

After watching the match tonight, I think Sharapova's serve looks more like Gustavo Kuerten's service motion than Pete Sampras'. I believe both Sharapova and Kuerten's service motions were modeled from Sampras' motion.

I think here service resemble a little bit of Sampras and Safin. Safin is a way that she brings her feet together her racket position. The rest is taken from Sampras's book.

Wow, from that pic you can definitely tell she is not coming in behind that serve.... the toss doesnt looks as far out into the court, and her body weight is hard to tell if it is moving forward.....where have all the serve and volleyers gone? ;(

okay people she might have TRIED to copy petes serve but shes nowhere close. her serve is the ugliest thing her toss is all over the place. if anybody even tries to say it looks like petes thats an embarrassment for pete

That might be a little bit of a purist pronouncement, but you're basically right. And we need purists to defend the right principles:-)

Her "reverse forehand" is definitely from Landsdorp:

was also used by Sampras in his latest years, including the the last USO final with Agassi.

Also, I think her toss is getting her into the court, even if she doesn't advance to the net. Otherwise she couldn't be this far over the baseline here:

(let's not talk about the grace with which she does that:-))
