The Federal Emergency Management Agency's No. 2 official apologized Friday for leading a staged news conference Tuesday in which FEMA employees posed as reporters. All the while, real reporters listened on a telephone conference line and were barred from asking questions. In the briefing, Vice Adm. Harvey E. Johnson Jr., FEMA's deputy administrator, called on questioners who did not disclose that they were FEMA employees, and gave replies emphasizing that his agency's response to this week's California wildfires was far better than its response to Hurricane Katrina in August 2005.

The actual headline should be "FEMA Sorry for Being Caught Faking News Briefing".

This is a blatant example, but, essentially, staged political briefings have been going on for a long time. This administration has taken to new heights though.
Like the Presidential debates, wTF?! They should be asked tough questions and follow up questions. This country is going to continue its slide into idiocy unless people demand more substance.

Precisely. This is nothing now except for now they're telling us they're faking it. Soon this method will be accepted.
Soon there will only be The Official Message. Journalism, even the current mutation of it, will die.

Unless the illusion of freedom is more useful than the reality of fascism.

Soon this method will be accepted. It's like how the Bush administration would leak something to the press on Wednesday, than on Sunday talk about how, say, The New York Times even said it. Or them paying companies to produce informercials that look like real news segments to shill their worldview. By comparison, this Fema thing is relatively harmless. Americans can generally immediately propaganda for what it is in foreign countries but they can't smell the BS right under their noses.

Your response is almost as lame as FEMA's news conference....

Get rid of FEMA and fully fund the national guard and The Red Cross. FEMA is another reason why the federal government should be kept small. They are inept, costly, and ineffective. Always have been.

Ahhh, the typical conservative ploy. Tell everyone that government is inept, get elected, appoint inept administrators, say, "See!!! Look how inept government is."
