How often do you come to the net?

I come in like 4 times a set...

I usually only come in if I get a short ball, or if I'm going for a Serve&Volley. But I'm working on a more effective serves and volley placement to have a S&V on some points to add variety.

I'm with you redsox, usually at least 1 time in every return, and 2-3 times in a service game. Of course, it all depends on what type of ball is coming over the net and where it lands.

That is very funny! We have some kids who we have to practically pay to come to the net.

Another reason kids should play some doubles, always helps to know your way around the net.

TennisCoachFLA - are you allowed to say where you coach? You've mentioned Macci a great deal, but I haven't read through enough posts to tell whether you work(ed) with him or somewhere else.

My son used to work w/ a fellow who recently moved to Florida and, I believe, now works for RMTA. Decent coach but was sometimes at odds w/ the parents because of personality issues.

it depends for me. If i am playing somebody bad i through in the chip and charge and some S&V. But if i am playing a really good player i stick to my guns at the baseline.

Serving: Singles (40% S&V), Doubles (75%)

Returning: Singles - as soon as I can hit a forcing shot or attack a short ball, Doubles (90%) - I don't play one up one back much, its a weak formation.

Its also influenced by opponents who can or can't hit with depth. When people can't consistently hit with depth, I start to move forward to open some angles, create some approach shot opportunities, take more balls on the rise and steal some time.

I get burned in no-mans land occasionally, but when the person can't hit with depth, no-man's land isn't such a bad place.

I always try to get in once a game. I would normally come in after a forcing shot when I get a sitter, but normally the ball doesn't come back after what I consider a forcing point...

Used to never come in, now I come in a lot, so as to end points quickly. I stil get a hard time in dubs, as guys joke 'I don't like playing dubs with you. You play singles out there!' I always laugh and say 'Yeah, but we win because of me.'

Prefer to stay back, but against lesser opponent or someone who is content to play defensively, I'll come in. Against guys like these, I love approaching with a drop shot.

But usually, i go down the line and im at the net in a second to put it away.

5-9 times. But I'm 5' 8", so I only come in when I know I can pull it off.
