What ranking do you think you have to be to get a good division 1 scholarship?

Thanks.

It has been a thumbnail consensus top 20to 50 nationally American, THEN coaches go foreign after those pickings are long gone, lol.
Check past (related) 100 threads, plus the CURRENT one on Foreign players.

What do you consider a "good" D1 scholarship. Bottom line: with only 4.5 scholarships available (due to good old Title IX and the preponderance of football scholarships), nearly all tennis programs divide scholarship moneys up among the starting players.

Very few players get a full ride; those that do are usually something special. Most players who get tennis scholarships will be receiving something like a 1/2 tuition scholarship. No room & board.

So the best advice is practice a lot AND don't neglect your grades. You can make up a ton of the non-athletic scholarship money with academic scholarships.

It's too bad, and all you get is criticized for saying it,"you are crushing kid's desire/dreams" But look at the threads-

Every D1 coach looks for a "top 20" American, OR immediately reaches for a foreign player (Baylor coach mentioned specifically).

Our state's 3 BEST recent graduates/ players (In top tier nationally, mind you) ended up like this:
50% scholarship to IOWA- 50% scholarship to MINNESOTA- 20% to NC

Good news from all this, a "pricey" DII or DIII will offer scholarships that are not "technically" tied to althletics (DIII can't offer any althletic)- but a nice package, you get a good education, and you get to play sooner.
University of Washington- St. Louis, anyone?
How about the "Fighting Jurists" of Brandeis ? (not kidding)
Just have the grades and other society skills that don't come easy, or from home.

Very well said. It is great to have D1 as a goal, just remember your education will probably carry you farther than tennis.

Sorry 10DAD...Out of country over holiday teaching some allies "pointy end up"
Around the courts word IS that Nanosky coming home from Minnesota; Would he just walk on and try and beat some scholarship money out of someone? Definitely ASUs GAIN if he doesn't change his mind again and just go pro.

Maybe a good tale to juniors who think two ways on this board-
Where can I get sponsorship and a bunch of stuff free? and How do I get a college scholarship (BIG stuff free)?
Universities run 2/3 a days all season- They OWN your time for that magic 20%to 50% partial.
Between all the practice- studies- being away from home, Be careful what you wish for.

That I don't know. I heard about Nanosky coming back from the Asst. Coach, but he didn't eloborate. It may be more of an extended try-out which is something they did for Lindstrom.

I guess we can only wish Nanosky the best; My question was more like, "If he wanted to go to ASU, why not start there- and if they didn't offer before, why would they now give him something?"
I think there may of been a possibility of wanting to be closer to home, but that doesn't bode well for a future of "break-even, live out of car trunk" life of a starting out pro.

I hope JN isn't reading this, but to paraphrase (pretty much a quote, but since a few weeks ago I'll call it a paraphrase) what I was told: "He's coming back 'cause he's such a momma's boy".

If that much of a homebody, I'd think he'd go to UA...

Let's just say... There are a lot and lots of kids stuck in strange (to them) places and some are more adept at handling it then others- This includes our brave volunteers in the service of our country... A real cut above most, when you think of bobbing up and down in the Indian ocean at 18.

Anyone, I think anyone would be lucky to pick this guy up. If he will be happier just inside the "laundry line" great-
"Laundry line"= number of miles to travel with a duffel bag of dirty clothes to parent's house worth it .

I have to say, Top D1 tennis is not what I thought it would be. I think everyone would be better off going to a mid level D1 like Troy, South Florida, GA. State, where u have good player to practice with, but without the pressure of having to win. and you get more money at a smaller school.
D1 was a waste of time and mental energy for me...

Harvard is D1. However Ivy league schools do not offer athletic scholarships. It's actually prohibited by the Ivy league athletic commission.
