Think your kid is the next Federer or Henin? Don't tell us about it, instead, post a video of him/her playing a match.
No need for these never-ending and pointless threads about future stars. I'm sick of the posts about the 'tennis samurai,' deiton, sonya kenin, tyana williams, silva etc.
If you think your kid is awesome and you feel the need to tell everyone, or get everyone's opinion, than post a match video (on youtube, for example) and let the esteemed TW community decide for themselves.

Well, there went the A JONES thread, keeeerflush.....I don't mind that it has vanished without explaination, I just really don't appreciate childish monitors suddenly cutting off threads when they feel "the card' being played any way they don't like- AND YET they know darn well they have a photoshop of Serrena Williams with a bucket of Chicken on her head(?)

Well stated and thank you. As a bandwidth engineer, I can assure you these pointless threads by parents of the next Roger, Martina, do nothing but clog the system.
How about threads on Junior training, (medicine balls, good or bad?, what kind of fitness is appropriate for a Jr. player, how many tourney matches a year etc) are all great examples of what this forum should be discussing.
Again, thank you.

I agree. Some of the best conversations I have had on this forum have been giving advice on training and also seeing some other perspectives on training.
In the future I will restrain myself from getting caught up with the 'next big thing' threads.
Perhaps if us adults can keep our focus on exchanging tennis ideas for juniors, this forum will follow suit.

All right, I'll sign on to declaration made by T/CFLA as well.
Only thoughtful posts, no matter how provoked by others.
It's just the I-me-mine posts that burn my lawn; And I now promise that I will not not to look at them anymore, rise to the bait. i won't tease the authors, either.
Let's leave the nonscense of asking over and over again of "How do I get sponsors" and other drivel to the kids.

Great start toward productivity. Good ole fashion jumping rope. These days with an IPOD, or MP3 these kids could be jumping for hours. Plus the bonus fo added fitness.

Ahhh...footwork...my favorite subject for tennis juniors. Seriously, it is so important and sometimes so neglected. Lots of juniors can crush the ball, but add in superb footwork and now were talking.
Great advice already, old fashion jumping rope, there are all kinds of tricks you can add for variety, is great. I also advocate combining footwork drills with balance training for an added dimension. Doing footwork drills on a Bosu trainer, bongo board, or mini trampoline is a challenge.
For some great tips and drills on footwork I would suggest Rick Macci's DVD "Becoming a Champion. Part 2. Footwork".

this is a great idea if you had a great ""camera set-up""" and ive allready went down this road i had a couple of guys on here saying my kid could only hit good while being spooon fed!!
then i put a video up of him hitting with a 6'5 monster and showed not only him hitting from the baseline but also had him stand in side it and take everything early and play the ball from there!! and still got slammed ive offered them to hit against him(deiton) one guy took the offer "Tennis Bum" and saw what the kid could do first hand,, he now believes in the kids possibillities and is a very respectful guy and understands whats going on behind the scenes!!
as for a video,, my son played a kid named Garret at the wilson nationals (seeded 2) and if i were to video tape it you would have seen deiton hitting the ball and garret flipping up the ball so high(moonballs) you couldnt see them in the camera ,,,you would not have been able to make a fair assesment of what deiton can do against no.2 seed flipping moonballs good luck trying to evaluate that match and talent level !!!
good thought though but lets keep the dilogues going and cleen

If you google jumping rope with the words like variety etc. You get a zillion fitness gurus that have either videos or websites with Jumping variations. The other thing is that a hand weighted rope will also give wrist and shoulder strength, especially to the kids who don't lift weights yet.

a lot of people say to jump rope, and i do, but how much should I do? i jump to 200 take a brief break and i start over again and i do that 3 times. is there a specific way to jump rope such as jump more or jump longer that would be more beneficial?

Thats great, now try one foot only. Alternate feet (left, right left etc), don't just go longer and longer you'll get bored. Try doing things like moving while jumping or on a balance board. Don't just jump longer boredom will set in. To help with concentration try. double feet for 3 jumps, followed by alternate feet, back to double, back to alternate. Anything to add variety.

The best I have seen at jump rope training methods is Buddy Lee. His book "Jump Rope Training" is available used at Amazon for $5.74.

Now back to reality, thanks again I ordered the book for fitness and footwork. Huge believer as yourself not just Juniors but adults as well. My experience is they don't think they have the time or the speed. When actually they have both. I have them doing the fitness on clay, not hitting. Just footwork and fitness then hit on hard courts. It's amazing what they can do when they do that. They move so much faster.
Thanks again. I owe you.

Mr. Baughman, I've been watching and monitoring this guy(tenniscrazed) behavior you should be careful. His profile I see fits one who lacks self-confidence and lashes out at a target to make himself feel superior because of his shortcomings in life. His past failures and false credentials (not doing his own school work, not being able to satisfy the mom, dad, spouse, children, ect.)he attacks you when your not even directing anything towards him, misspelling your sons name, to try to feel superior and try to make you feel inferior, it's complete disrespect for you and your "son" (who hasn't done anything to this man). Why you would attack a child is beyond any rational adult, but not beyond this individual and I'm sure the rest of the board would agree with these verbal assaults are aimed at your child, also PLEASE BE CAREFUL this man is not stable to attack a child, WOW!

Brad, he is a run down on the different areas of Florida that are tennis hotbeds:
West Coast of Florida:
IMG: Bradenton. Less expensive than the east coast. But yes, parts of Bradenton are run down and gang infested. IMG is its own world, but it can get rough when you venture out from there. That being said, there are good areas of Bradenton, either east in Lakewood Ranch or west close to the water.
Saddlebrook: Wesley Chapel. Nice and growing area. But more inland and a little isolated. But wow, what an amazing tennis program.
Sanchez-Casal: Naples. Beautiful area, but it caters to old folks.
East Coast of Florida:
South East Florida: Delray Beach on down to Miami. Literally the hotbed for juniors. Evert's, Macci's, and numerous other tennis academies and programs.
I would suggest SE FLorida for tennis juniors. It is fast paced and lots of fun for kids. Lots of northeast transplants, rub some folks the wrong way, but give the area an edge that makes it never boring! There are top juniors in every town. Clay courts, hard courts everywhere, even some grass courts. Good tournaments every weekend within a hours drive.
We are in Parkland, basically right in the middle of it. We can go north to Palm Beach County and hit lots of tennis action. Or south towards Miami and hit lots of tennis action. The Orange Bowl...the Sony Erickson in Key Biscayne.
In my opinion, this is a great place to raise a tennis kid. It is hot and humid, but honestly June, July, August, September are the only months you need to worry about. The other 8 months are amazing. Pretty much everyone has a pool, so even the hot months are handled just fine.
Unfortunately, we will be up in PA the next 9 months working a business we run up there. But will return in fall 2008 and resume FL tennis activities.

Nick Saviano runs an amazing program. They are located in Sunrise, FL. which is about 30 minutes south of us. He trains some of the top juniors and also works with some pros. Kids can attend full time or for single weeks.
This area is so competitive. Some kids spend time at different academies to get various perspectives. There is no BS or fake hype down here, the elite kids are separated from the rest very quickly. Almost every tournament in SE Florida has strong competition.
That being said, there are plenty of programs for the majority of the kids who are just into tennis for the exercise or pure fun. They are the lifeblood of the sport and we provide for them also. Most local parks have nice yet inexpensive tennis programs for the local kids to learn the game.
Here is Mr. S's website:

That's great this is a long jouney. We should be in support of all American kids trying to do something positive. They need our support. Wining or losing is not decided by opinions but on the court that is what I love about tennis.
Thank for the info on your friend in Florida. But I have only one client and at this point it is fulltime. But I am a hitting coach with a couple of other coaches they are also fulltime with same client. And my contract is long term.
But if I can point you and Deiton in any directions here or help. I would be glad to. You seem like good hard working people. And being stepped on because you love your son. Crazy! We need more fathers like you. Less "roaches" Sorry no insult intented to roaches
Off to the court now. Not what some want to hear but. "I shall return" LOL

Hey Oldschool,, this is a long journey you are not kidding ,, its tough because everybody is out to get everybody ,,we do put in the work and it does pay off ,, deit was fortunate enough to land a very sweet deal a little over a year ago which allows us to pick and choose what we want to do and how we want to do it, other wise we would be at the mercys of some management group with a strangle hold on us,, weve had some good people handleing deits road and there open to us relocating ,, ive heard alot about Florida and how great it would be for the tennis asspect of it ,,im not sure though would love to see it firsthand check out some of the accadimies although i dont agree with fullltime would like to see one up close!!

Brad glad to hear you and deit have money matters at hand that is a big part of this battle. Take a look at the Florida Academies. But each will have their positives and negatives. If I was in CA. I would go and see Lansdorp if I were you. If you have the funds available. He is the cream of the crop stroke wise.
Then you need private coaching from someone with a track record. Who is willing to live sleep and eat by the betterment of Deiton. This is hard to find but a must. IMO Allot of big named coaches in Florida are only interested in how much money they can make now. Not making a tennis champion. Be carefull

Delray Beach is awesome. I go down there with my family a couple of times a year, because my grandparents live in Boynton Beach, and it is great for tennis. I've played at many different places down there. Some place in Pompano Beach, I hit with some kids at Evert sometimes, and another place in Delray. It's really great down there.
They also have a lot of good tournaments, and big tournaments there. Like Supers Clay Courts in the summer in Fort Lauderdale.
