Hi all, I am having trouble creating pace with my SW open stance forehand. I played with a friend and found myself struggling to match his speed of play. are there any tips on how to add pace short of stance change?
P.S I've searched the forums this is my last resort, any input is appreciated. thanks amillion

Since you do not shift your weight into the shot for many open stance FHs, be sure that you are bending & driving with your "rear" leg (racket leg). You must be sure than you are rotating your torso (upper body) sufficiently to set for the shot -- 90 to 100 degrees (or so) should do it. Turning your back leg somewhat to the side fence should help with your body turn.
Rotate your body back towards the ball to initiate your forward swing. If you make contact even with, or a bit forward of, your "front" foot, you should be able to utilize the power of your rear leg and your body turn. If you don't rotate sufficiently or you contact late, it may be difficult to get power on many of your open-stance shots.
Is too much of your swing going into producing excessive topspin rather than into generating enough pace?

make sure you use plenty of upper body coil, and use your legs to supply extra power. bend the knees and explode into the shot.

depends on what your SW forehand looks likeg...you might have a technical flaw in the weight transfer, followthrough, timing, etc etc.
usually it's not enough foward weight transfer or late timing or way too loopy swing.

Probably you are not coiling back a lot.
Make sure that (if you are a righty) that your left shoulder
ends up under your chin as you do your turn
this way you get a TON of coil which means = ton of speed on
your ball

I would suggest that you change to a semi open stance if you want to hit with more pace. But since you mentioned that you want to know if there is another way to add pace to your ball without stance changing.
Try this - follow your normal motion and movement when you hit forehand. The difference is what you do when you prep your racquet before swinging - keep the head of the racquet facing up / parallel to your face, as the shoulder and hip turn, bring your racquet down creating a loop + a wrist snap to your stroke as make contact with the ball.
Check out how the player set up his racquet before each swing / notice how fast is the racquet speed. (apologized, if the stance in the video is semi-open). The racquet movement is the same even for open stance.

Hope this help!
