I couldn't believe when I saw it at a Ross store in Naples, Florida, a year ago. Many of you already know, it's a hit or miss at Ross; though it was quite expensive, they had only one of them, and I didn't have much time to think, so I had to take it. Interesting 70s-80s fashion style, wouldn't you say? I have barely even worn it since then:
1. Because I live in Florida, and jackets in Florida are not necessary.
2. So that I don't mess it up... it's one of a kind.

I have seen Stan Smith only on pictures; I don't even know how he plays, and I have barely even seen Nastase video footage too... aside from knowing that he was "the bad boy of tennis" before McEnroe came. I actually thought Smith and Nastase played at different times: Smith in the 50s-60s, and Nastase in the 70s. I guess they played sometime in between these periods.

Nice pics. Smith played Nastase in the 1972 Wimbledon final, generally regarded as one of the best matches of alltime. Which is I guess the inspiration for this jacket. They are both the same age, & from the same era.

They also played in probably the most famous(or infamous) Davis Cup final, in 1972, in Romania, when linesman & umpires were clearly giving favorable calls to the host country, Romania. Smith & the US still managed to win the Cup.

The Stan Smith tennis shoe was actually sort of popular back in the day, not just with tennis players.

It actually looks like Adidas put out a whole line of apparrel to commemorate this classic Wimbleton Match. Thanks for the history lesson Moose, I didn't know about the Davis cup match (not having lived during that time).

I'm pretty sure I see the jacket you are referring to on a popular auction site used by millions of americans right now!

I must say, its a looker!

That is the coolest jacket I've ever seen.

That jacket is a bit OTT for my taste - I'd prefer not to publicly commemorate any tennis match in that fashion.

Stan the Man! What a tennis player and decent human being...
