The greatest daredevil in history passed away yesterday at the age of 69. Evel will be missed.

Over the years, he broke 40 bones in his body, yet, during his big Canyon jump, people still question if his chute opened early on purpose.

I was a huge Evel fan as a kid - did the jumps on my bike, had the toys... even had the lunchbox.
In adulthood, I saw that Even as a human being was pretty much a horse's *** and a hypocrite... albeit in a lovable way.

I've always wondered why he didn't try the canyon jump again - seeing as a technical malfunction was given as a reason for the jump's failure.

Evel supposedly got the nickname while in jail with a guy named Knaufel. The deputy at the jail apparently said to someone "We've got two guys in the pen - Evel Knievel and Awful Knaufel."

But that was probably just another of Evel's many lies.

One of the causes of his death was the Hepatitis C he allegedly contracted during one of his many blood transfusions.

One can legitimately say of him that he was "often imitated, but never duplicated".
We'll never see anyone like him again.
