My son's been asked to play on a 14 and under USTA tennis team. It's composed of three guys and three girls, and they play every weekend starting in January. We don't know much about it and am trying to do some homework, and the USTA site isn't that informative.
What is the format of play? Singles? Doubles? Mixed-doubles?
Thanks for any info.

Every weekend until when? That can add up financially and emotionally.

Don't know. Probably March or April or so. Like I said, it's his first year and I'm just trying to find out how this works. The team is all composed of new players too.
He's in his junior team practice now, and I'll head up there to ask the pros and see if they know. I'm not sure how popular the USTA team tennis is in this area.

junior team tennis in santa barbara is only for kids ages 14 and under, is somewhat competitive, the top players in my league were ranked around 120ish, although in other areas such as calabassas and ventura i hear that more serious players play. your son will polay doubles, mixed doubles and singles, its fun

Thanks. I found out that with the 3 boy, 3 girl teams, there's one boys singles, one girls singles, one boys doubles one girls doubles, and one mixed doubles. In our area, there's apparently one league for 3.0 players and below, and one for 3.5 and above.
It should be fun. The league starts January 11th. Does this sound about the same as yours.

at our age most kids will have no idea how to rank themselves, unless your kid is an absolute beginner have him play in the 3.5 and above, btw where are you from?

He's about a 3.5, with 4.0+ strokes and a 2.5 brain! Hmm, that makes about a 3.5 player!
He doesn't have any ranking yet since he's only been playing about two years and only one tournament ever (he went 2-1 and lost in the semis), but he's really getting into it because he wants to do well on his high school team (when he gets there next year). He'll be on a team with friends from his tennis lesson sessions, and they're all about the same level.
We're from the Seattle/Bellevue/Redmond area of Washington State. I'm sure it's nowhere near as competitive as California.
