Many years ago, when I was a teen, I blurted out a dumb and rude remark. . . which I've ever since had pangs of regret.

How might you use the internet to track down someone? This fellow's long gone out of the area, and I have no clue where.

You can use something like Yahoo People Search, or Anywho:

http://people.yahoo.com/
http://www.anywho.com/

If you graduated from the same high school, you could try something like http://www.classmates.com

It seems like everyone (and their mother) is on facebook now, I would try that too.

Just Google their name. Also, you can check sites like LinkedIn, classmates, whitepages, etc. There are ways around having to pay. For instance, go to one of the pay sites and conduct a free search. When the matches pop up, if one looks like a good fit, take the name and the town and then Google that, i.e. John Anybody,Anytown.

Depending on age, MySpace and Facebook are also options.

I didn't know it was so easy to find someone, ergo myself. Being that there isn't people with my actual name, it was shocking....

Yep, everyone's on Facebook.
It's almost a sure bet, especially if the person you're looking for is in the 18-25 demographic.
