^^Wow, this is very special! I think I am going to do a Google search on that digit sequence (zip code?) in your user name, so as to ascertain the geographies of my fan base…:)

TP and CC, thanks for your nominations. I would like to clarify something here.

I am guessing that Breaker did not repeat his tour de force awards work this year, because it was too much work for him last year. Therefore, I am not currently planning to edit the OP to incorporate the categories and nominations submitted.

I ask everyone to be a good sport, and if someone happens to have time on their hands and desire to volunteer, at any time over the next few days or whatever, please go through the thread and summarise the categories/nominations in a single post. That way the process can move forward without constant oversight and work from one person.

Is that your roundabout way of proposing "Best Therapist" as a category and nominating SoBad for the award?

If you want to be nominated to be the best therapist, then go ahead. I wonder who is going to nominate you though

SoBad
12-15-2007, 09:09 PM
^^ You must know that there were times when you were not only cruel to me, but also hurt the fragile feelings of my friend Jim Willard, who is a very pure innocent guy and a tremendous athlete.

But the past is in the past. We are now in the holiday season when we truly speak from the heart and discuss categories and nominations! By the way, what is the meaning of the five-digit sequence in your username?

What I’ve done to create this is went through the previous posts in the thread to check for suggested categories and nominations for various categories. Some additional comments on the categories and nominations stage of the 2007 awards process:

- self-nominations are not accepted; however, lobbying is permitted; in order to avoid confusion and derailment of this thread, a quiet therapy office has been established for lobbying and other ancillary discussions relating to this awards process - http://tt.tennis-warehouse.com/showthread.php?t=171291

- some obviously male posters nominated for best female have been removed based on discretionary common sense considerations

- I nominated TonLars and serveitup911 into best players category

- for avoidance of doubt from all the joking around, Babolat is actually sponsored by SoBad and not the other way around, yet the AM28143 nomination stands unchallenged

- we would not be doing ourselves any favours by dragging this on; therefore, let’s try to finalise categories and nominations over the next day or two, and then move right on to voting, so we can have closure by year end

Rickson: in order to participate in the nomination stage of the awards process, one is generally expected to provide nominations for the established categories. If one wishes to propose a new category, a supporting argument is expected. Since your attempt at participation in the awards process fails those established criteria, I recommend that you get your issues sorted out in the thread established for that very purpose:

http://tt.tennis-warehouse.com/showthread.php?t=171291

before we can have your "opinions" incorporated in the awards process. Many thanks.

I nominate Rickson for best mixed martial arts fighter.

I think that Best MMA Fighter should be a category because the sport of MMA is very popular within the entire world and it coincides with tennis because people of all races participate in it. I also believe it should be a category because there are a lot of MMA fighters on this board that could provide great competition within the category, such as that guy SoBad and that unpredictable assassin Zets.....good enough?

Most knowledgeable (exercise): tie between Ano and KevinT

Thanks, Rickson!

But I will say this honestly on this forum :

Kevin T is MUCH more knowledgeable than me.

He has a master degree in exercise physiology and a doctoral degree in nutrition.

Comparing me with Kevin T is like comparing a 5.0 player with a tour player.

Most likely to eat Canadian Bacon: Canadian Chic

Darn it, I don't eat bacon but it's nice to see that I'm on your mind. How about Most Likely to Complain over a Massage: Ricky!! Or even better...Most likely to smother a small person in his massive armpit. Haha. Nothin' like posting on a tennis forum at five forty in the morning.

Most Civil: Fee
Most Helpful: Ano (Kevin T is also very good, as are several other guys, including Midlife Crisis, who doesn't post as often) The sheer volume of fully cited posts by Ano, and always topical, wins the nomination for him by a landslide, IMHO.

Funniest: North, for her comment "If Cheney died, then Bush would be President".

Best Thread: The Simon Brown thread was a heartwarmer. Kudos to Simon for bringing a human touch to internet relationships.

Best Tennis History information: Moose Malloy

Best Instruction: Bungalo Bill and John Yandell. Although John is a bit more patient (by a whisker), Bill posted more often, particularly earlier in the year. Where have you gone, BILL? :)

Best Writer: I don't remember the fellow's handle at the moment, but he is a superb writer, probably a professional sports writer, who has written about tennis and baseball here. Maybe someone knows who I mean?

Best Female Member: Talk about an oxymoron! :) They don't post enough, except for CC in her one thread. They must have real lives? ;)

Most Willing to fight to the death: alwaysatnet

Person I agree with most: Phil and Ano. Tied!

Person I admire most: That writer guy, above. It sucks having no talent. :)

Best Racquet Person: Breakpoint, though a couple of new guys are coming on strong. Maybe next year he will be passed?

-Robert

We truly are the kings of derail, but since you refuse to step foot in the bistro, I claim no fault here. Smokies can be both, although personally I select the beef ones with no mechanical separation or by-products added (that is a deal breaker).

Hell I think Sobad hijacked his own thread on the first page although the nominations are in here which is all that matters. Is the decor not to your liking in the bistro or what? As for pork, I don't eat it as a general. I have nothing against it and will eat it occasionally if it is served to me somewhere but I'm not a big fan of the taste of ham or the idea of eating fatty strips of an animal. :|

Hmmm. Then why not cut it out completely like I did? I made bathroom runs almost every time I ate pork so I stopped altogether and voila, fewer bathroom breaks. You won't even miss it, especially if you hardly eat it now.

Biggest anti-mod: Dedans Biggest anti-mod?? Au contraire mon fraire!

I (sincerely) think both diredesire and the 'blogging Brit' Chris to be "top shelf." As for the others, I may not know them, but I'm sure I'd be just as fond of them as well--and I'm sure they'd feel 'fraternal' in that regard as well. I am after all, an ambassador of love ...well, to those that really do know me...and besides, I did think the 'bumpersticker' joke 'cute' (read: harmless).

So,
what's with the skepticism, and why the cynicism?....where's the love Rickson?
Where's the love?

I would have thought our in-house poet laureate Dedan's Penthouse deserves to be nominated in the Greatest Poster of All Time category.

What is the criteria for that category - quality AND quantity, ONLY quality ... ?

I also liked his user name a lot.

And his sigs are very mysterious - keep changing with the times -- "Mr ILC and Horse's *** whisperer "!

Very polite, civil and kind person.

I would like more information on this situation, and, hopefully, a telephone number. Please...;-)

Dedans told me last year that I should call her through my caller ID on the cell phone when she called me up once as I gave her my number for some other purpose and we spoke briefly. Now I had never officially gotten her number from her so I was wary, but Dedans pointed out that in this day and age, with every cell and landline having caller ID, I had a green light to call anyway. Well, I called and left a voicemail and she was nice enough to call back even though it took 2 days. She told me she had a fiance who might even be hubby by now (who knows?) so that's that. I thought Dedans gave some good advice there.

If I'm not mistaken, Zhan is a banned member, no? Personally, I don't think banned members should be allowed a nomination on the polls. Again, correct me if I;m wrong, but if this is the member I'm thinking about they were terribly rude and insulting to active members and the nom should go to someone we wish to return who has the ability to do so.
I fully agree with you.

The Most Wanted to Return category is about posters people miss. The criteria for nomination as well as voting are therefore purely emotional and unconcerned with such posters’ history of forum departure and re-entry, or indeed the specific mode of any of those entries and exits. Clearly, if someone was rude to you and you don’t miss them, you have the moral right not to vote for them in the poll for this category.

So Bad, I don't think I deserve to be put as a nominee in GOAT.

I've been on this forum for less than 2 years.

Ano, no problem, if you are not comfortable with your candidacy nomination, I’ll remove you from the list.

Slice, I’m sorry I must have missed your nomination by a few minutes, as the Best Thread poll must have been already underway. I’ll go ahead and stick Jo11yRoger into GOATs for you though, to make up for this lapse in communication. When economy is overbooked, we upgrade to first class free of charge!

Well done, SoBad.
But am I missing something: is the great Marius Hancu not nominated for anything? Has he left the building?

Thanks! I will go ahead and interpret your question about Marius together with qualifier of “great”, as your nomination of his candidacy for the GOAT category.

Ahhahahahhaa, good one, man. Maybe you can provide...a link?

BTW, good one in the topspimonkey/Gato thread. Can we nominate Leanne for funniest?

Again, the funny poll is already out there, but we could still drop him into the Best New Member pool (just not sure he’s ready for GOATs after just a couple of months on the forum) at this time.

On behalf of the Awards Committee, I wish to thank everyone who attended our holiday party this year. All of us at the committee have enjoyed it a great deal, and we certainly hope that all the attendees had a fantastic time.

Not everyone believes in “sixth sense”. I do. And now I also believe in “fifth slam”. I praise the collective effort of all involved to revitalise this subforum and re-create the unique atmosphere of the “General Pro Discuss” at slam time, at holiday time, however briefly.

We would also like to thank the grounds keepers for doing a superb job of the cleanup after the party. One cannot help but feel that everyone is refreshed and ready for Christmas now. Happy Holidays everyone!:)

P.S. This is sort of a secret, so please don’t talk about it, but if everybody continues to be a good sport, we might look into bonus award by doing a little scientific analysis around the award ceremony, maybe pull everybody into some spreadsheets and do some charts, but let’s not talk about it yet…;)

P.P.S. Also included FAQs into the OP of the polls, because it seems many people have some of the same questions again and again.

Chris, if you have a personal problem with anyone on the list, keep it to yourself. No need to drag me into it. You seem to be full of hatred. I am not playing your game. Best wishes and no hard feelings from my side. Hope you have a nice xmas.

p.s. I try to see the good side in people. sobad _is_ quite funny, at least to me, when he tries to position Safin as the Goat and some unheard of russians kids as slam winners in 2008. First, his Fedophobia irritated me, then i got over it. TBH, one or 2 of his posts offended me, but i refuse to paint him black for that.

iirc, you are quite an expert on racquets, and i enjoyed some posts on painting racquets blue (iirc). I would like to continue to respect you, while at the same time respecting other members, too. Peace.

^^^^ I don't look for people to respect me. If you like my knowledge on racquets and paintjobs then that is great. But I worry when someone like yourself hangs on every word someone like sobad says and then follow's him around like a puppy dog..

I am not full of hate, but simply bring to light the sillyness that these boards sometimes bring.. To make 10 threads of different polls and put yourself in everyone of them suggests that you are obviously looking for some recognition and attention?

I am not the first person to have an issue with this member putting himself on some kind of stage for us to admire and wonder in his "socalled sobad" greatness..

This is true, and the OP knows it. I don't think that he does it to seek attention per se, but to take as many people as possible for a ride. In fact, that has been his whole game (setting up a stage for posters to argue, and then watching it contentedly from the sidelines) since he came back after being banned a few months ago.

He is among the more sophisticated trolls, and people find that harder to notice. I just put him on the Ignore List but, unfortunately, Tennis Warehouse does not have an option which hides threads started by the ignored person. If they added that option, I wouldn't have to worry if the OP spends all his waking hours on this board.

Gentlemen (the ones with complaints in the last dozen or so posts above), before this lively discussion of what you perceive as my personality flaws gets too strange, let me say a few words to you on a more serious note. I don’t recall ever conversing with any of you previously, which is why I doubt there could possibly be any problems between us of personal nature. Therefore, I would venture to guess that your displeasure is related to the way the awards process was carried out this year, or perhaps the very fact that it was carried out at all.

Believe me, I understand why you may feel irritated – after all, in the midst of the quiet season, the subforum turned into a zoo flooded with polls and all sorts of discussions, you don’t know the facilitator, the facilitator gets nominated for all sorts of categories, while you don’t nominate anyone and don’t get nominated for anything. While I made my best effort to be an impartial facilitator (I did not reject any nominations, and hardly got to make any myself), of course there is all sorts of bias in the awards process. Furthermore, there is no question that some of the bias is related to the person facilitating the process. It is only natural that those posters who had previously interacted with the facilitator on the forum feel comfortable pitching in with nominations, suggestions, etc. However, please recognise that it is hardly something the facilitator himself can control.

The question then emerges in some minds (perhaps the ones that for some reason take these awards more seriously than what the awards probably deserve – note the smiley attached to this thread) – why aren’t we having the well-known and widely respected pre-Feb2004 poster X (who has vast tennis and forum knowledge, and what not) facilitating the awards this year? That is a perfectly valid question, but it is a question for poster X to answer, not for me.

I know that I enjoyed the awards process last year when Breaker facilitated, and I know that many other forum members enjoyed it as well. While most of us had forgotten about it, a couple of months ago a very well-liked and widely respected 2004 member slice bh compliment bumped up the old memories by reminding all of us that it was about time to get the nominations rolling, should we wish to repeat the awards process this year. People then fondly talked about it for a little bit, yet months passed by and no one did anything (including all those knowledgeable pre-Feb2004 posters), until another popular guy Jo11yRoger bumped it up last week reminding us that it’s now or never for the 2007 awards. I happened to be around, and that call was enough for me (an unknown guy whose current popularity on the forum is hovering somewhere just below the level of popularity of a stray dog at a farmers market) to get the ball rolling, with repeated pleas for others to join in facilitating, (i.e., summarising nominations and launching polls). Again, no one came through, and it was up to me to carry the process forward on my own.

At present the nominations are long in the past, the polls are out, some are gone, the humourous “therapy office” is closed, and much of the discussion that had transpired around this year’s awards now only lives in the memories of those who were there to watch the show live. I know that many have enjoyed (I know I did) this little holiday event we had, and for those who still feel unhappy about it, I suggest you discuss amongst yourselves what can be done to make it more enjoyable for you next year, if indeed it is to be done again in the future.

Again, many thanks to all who participated, and happy holidays to everyone! (In other words, c'mon i'ts xmas u guys peace out lololz!@!:))
