Post with any info about your new players or news coming up for your season.
Our school is a pretty consistent school in our area of about 10 schools always maintaining Top 3. Been #2 for the past three years.
This week I got to see some of our new guys and this was our line up last year.
#1 Junior Using Pure Drive Roddick/ NTRP: 4.5
#2 Freshmen Using Hammer Tour 95/ NTRP: 4.5
#3 Sophomore Using PD W/ Cortex/NTRP: 4.5 (ME)
#4 Sophomore Using Hammer Tour 95/NTRP 4.0
#5 Junior Using Flexpoint Radical Tour/NTRP: 3.5
#6 Senior Using Prince TT Warrior/ NTRP: 3.5 (Could be a 4.5 but has terrible mental toughness)
This is our line up this year! Though not looking great we are hoping we can buff out the rough edges, most guys have had great local coaches for a while but have not had any good match experience which is bad.
#1 Sophomore Using Hammer Tour 95/ NTRP: 5.0 (last years #2)
#2 Junior Using O3 Speedport Tour/NTRP: Strong 4.5 (me)
#3 Junior Using KSix One 95/NTRP: 4.5
#4 Freshman Using RQ iS Tour 1/NTRP: 4.0
#5 Junior Using Hammer Tour 95/NTRP: 4.0 (last years #4)
#6 Junior Using Flexpoint Radical Tour/NTRP: 3.5 (last years #5)
the #3 and #4 have great strokes in practice but their match skills are lacking. they expect everyone to play them from the baseline. our #3 has huge potential and the only thing though right now that'll keep him in the top 3 is his serve. although for me and the #1 for me to neutralize it's proving difficult for the others. he can serve upwards to 119 mph (highest we recorded during practice. he holds his own in tiebreakers and wins a heavy dose of them but that's risky tennis and coach may not like that.
Our tennis team at school never gets any credit even though we always produce good results but after our soccer team this year had a 3-11 record with 2 wins coming from the worst team in the conference, the school is jumping at getting other teams new equipment since the soccer team gets bundles of stuff every year. they now see soccer as a liability than an asset. this year we're getting a ball machine, personalized hoddies, warm ups, and personalized t shirts as well money for training aids. the school is actually going to buy us things like the wrist assist basically anything "they" think'll help us.
So what's up with yall's school team!?

Wow.. So in-depth.
Last year we were #3 in the city. The highest the school has ever been.
This year we aim for #1 and it looks possible.
We got a super freshman and another transferred in who's going to play #2. Everyone got better. Ace team!
Not sure about our opponents but it's going to be interesting.
We start late January.

There is a guy ranked 74 or so in the nation going for varsity, and he's a freshman! We also have some varsity players ranked pretty high in NorCal. Our team is looking nice. :D
Heh. You all are so lucky to live somewhere where tennis is taken seriously. There are only two real players on our HS team are myself and my hitting partner.
Me- (See signature for racquet specs), 4.0 Counterpuncher (Yes, only 4.0, but my speed and conditioning make me a match for a 4.5)
Jon- Liquidmetal Radical Oversize strung with Prince ProBlend at 60. 4.0 offensive baseliner.

I agree with bab you guys are lucky our hs team is the worst right now we lost all our players because they were mostly seniors (#1,#2,#4 and more) and we hardly get any equip our courts are like messed up because of people playing football and soccer on it. We are trying to fundraise to get more money to get better nets. We only got like 4 people that can play and there is 4 more we have to teach to play var this year im just hoping we win some of our matches which we never did last year -.-
our line up is this
#1 Junior, All rounder racket using:Wilson prostaff 6.0 85 sq in
#2 Sophomore, Counterpuncher using: babolat aeropro w/cortex 100 sq in (me)
#3Junior, Counterpuncher using: head liquidmetal 8
#4 sophomore, Agressive baseliner using: Prince 03 tour
and the dubs are the people we have to train wish us luck!

#1 (Senior) All courter using Wilson K Factor KSix-One 95 (18x20) (probably will switch to T-Fight 335). 4.0-4.5
#2 (Sophmore) Agressive Baseliner using Head LM Rad Mid+ (me) 4.0
#3 (Sophmore) agressive baseliner/counter puncher using Prince TT Warrior 3.5-4.0
#4 (Sophmore) Junkballer using Head LM 4 (3.0)
#5 Probably: (Sophmore) Powerful baseliner using a wilson racquet (don't know which kind) 2.5; hopefully not, maybe there will be a good freshmen or someone else.
#6 TBD

Yeah I know, we are awful. We lost 5 out of the top 6 last year. Plus we live in the Y-Town Virginia, tennis isn't that big here. My senior year we will be great though. Our rivals up north, Jamestown in Williamsburg always have an outstanding team.

our tennis team is only being taken seriously now due to the fact that alot of our sports teams are looking subpar. soccer used to be one of our strongest sports next to football but after their terrible season they're ready to throw money at anything.
Heh. Our tennis program gets next to no funding. Go figure. I live in the south where it's all about football...

Tell me about it: My school, David W. Butler High (Butler for short), just ended its football season by beating Independence, a nationally ranked (#3 at the beginning of the year) team who had won more than a hundred straight games before this year, in addition to 7 straight state championships.
Anyway - our team. This is all purely speculation/prediction, as we don't start until February.
#1: Jesse/Junior/Aggressive Baseliner
#2: Adrian/Junior/Counter-Puncher
#3: Ben/Junior/Aggressive Baseliner
#4: Andrew(Me)/Junior/All-Around (strong Serve & Volley component)
#5: Dennis/Junior/Counter-Puncher**
#6: Nathan/Sophomore/Counter-Puncher**
**- Could change depending on a senior and the strength of his tryout
Notice anything strange? Yeah - NO SENIORS IN THE TOP 6.
All our seniors graduated last year, leaving us with holes at #1, #2, #5, and #6 singles and the #1 and #2 doubles pairs.
This oughta be interesting...

we lost all but two of our top 8 players last year. Last year's number 4 is player number one this year and me (number 8 last year) will be playing 2 it seems, but i'm confident i can usurp the throne. It's a sad state of things at my highschool.... our number 4 player can't hit a backhand, and i don't mean he is bad at it, i mean he CANNOT hit a backhand. The gap between the top two players on the team and the number four player is literally 3 NTRP points wide.
(I apologize for grammar, spelling, etc. its not stupidity, its apathy)

NC always is fun for tennis. I teach half of my team how to play every year. This year I'll be in good shape because my top 3 players are all 3.5-4.0 players. The problem is that the level drops after to 2.5-3.0 for 4-5 and my number 6 will by completely new to tennis more then likely.

We just finished out football season (#2 in Div. II CIF finals in the whole San Diego county), and we are starting tennis practice after we get back to school (mid January). Next year (my Senior year), we are switching leagues against the toughest high schools in San Diego, like Poway, Torrey Pines, Encinitas (or Carlsbad), San Pascual, and others.
Anyways, here are my speculations for our tennis team for the upcoming season. Well, here is our best players...
1. Senior/Aggressive baseliner/4.5
2. Sophomore/Junkballer/strong 4.0
3. Senior/Aggressive baseliner, net rusher/4.0
4. Junior (me)/Aggressive baseliner/4.0
5. Senior/All-court player/4.0
6. Senior/ Aggressive baseliner/4.0
7. Sophomore/Junkballer/strong 3.5

sb got hit hard because spencer simon recently got invited to the evert academy and i think he's going (not sure granitechief can clarify) we still got a decent team, nguyen, grant, grokenberger, grant, melton, teufel, but our freshmen class is pretty weak without simon. plus our girls asst. coach recently was arrested for doing things with girls on the team.

Wow - we're not exactly in the same boat.
Our guys are pretty consistent: 4.5's from 1-4, 4.0 #5, and 3.5 #6...After that, it's generally 3.0s and the occasional better player with mental issues that isn't starting/varsity for some reason.
Yeah, NC is great for sports, especially tennis - everyone has a high passion for it and wants to do their very best at everything, from practice to championships.

It's all in the area that you live in. I'm in a fairly rural area and I lose a lot of players to a high school that's geared for those with quite a bit of money in their pocket. You might even say they recruit. By the end of the season, all my top 3 will be 4.0-4.5 and so on down the line. They don't play a ton in the offseason but they are starting to get the bug.

This is my prediction for our year's lineup. We lost 9 seniors last year.
1. Junior, Flexpoint Prestige, all-court, plays like Nadal, but with less of a get-every-ball-back mentality, and goes for a little more.
2. Junior, Wilson nTour-Two, agressive all court
3. Freshman, Wilson nPro Surge, plays just like Roddick, albeit with better volleys and a backhand compared to the rest of his game.
4. Junior, Wilson nTour, defensive baseliner+Freshmen, Prince Shark, serve and volleyer
5. Sophmore, Babolat Aero Pro Cortex, all-around game, doesn't go for much but isn't a pusher either+Sophmore, nTour, offensive baseliner.
Rest will be filled out with freshmen, sophmores, and juniors. No seniors for the team this year, none are good enough.

We got lucky my senior year because we moved out of the toughest section into one of the easiest, so we have a really good chance of making it to state.
1. Senior - all court player - wilson ncode ntour 2
2. Senior- aggressive baseliner - Dunlop m-fil 300
3. Junior - aggressive baseliner - wilson ncode nsix-two
4. freshman- counter puncher - dunlop m-fil 300
1. Senior and Senior(me) - Prince 03 tour and yonex RDS 002 tour
2. Senior and Senior - Prince 03 tour and wilson nPS 95
3. Junior and Junior - O3 hybrid hornet and babolat drive z-tour

Again, very interesting. I assumed my school would also be like this, as the other players seem to have other things going (constant work, other sports, travel, etc.) but three or four of us were at a girls match early in the year and everyone said they'd been practicing a lot, so maybe things will elevate this year and be exciting...Ah, I'm getting so excited!

#1: Michael. Power baseliner, extreme western grip. Junior. Yonex.
#2: James. Baseliner. Close to my level, there will be competition between me and him. Sophmore. n95, I think.
#3: Me. S&V/Allcourt. Trying to lie low and be an underdog. Freshman. Leaded K95 team.
#4: Michael. Counterpuncher/baseliner. Extremely cocky. I hope he quits b/c he'll only make the team worse. Sophmore. O3 tour.
#5: Cole. Lefty baseliner. Has anger problems. Sophmore. O3 tour.
#6: Up for grabs...

Our lineup's probably gonna look like:
#1: Junior. All-Rounder player. Babolat Pure Storm
#2: Junior. Aggresive Baseliner. Dunlop Aerogel 300. Lefty
#3: Sophomore. Me. All-Rounder. Babolat Pure Drive
#4: Sophomore. Counterpuncher. Babolat Pure Drive
#5: Junior. Serve-and-volley. Yonex RDS-003.
#6: Not sure. Probably a Senior. Can't tell what type of playstyle he's got. Babolat Aeropro Drive.
We lost...our 4 best Seniors last year so...not sure how the seasons gonna go this year. Darnit.

My team has been weak for the past couple of years but this year we have a lot of seniors and it looks like we're going to have a really strong year especially because a lot of other teams had a lot of strong seniors they lost in the past year. We've been getting stronger every year and this is "our year" for lack of a better term.
1. Senior. Me. All court athletic player who isn't afraid to play agressively or defensively. Both me and #2 are very athletic and play other sports.
2. Senior. Strong baseline player with slight mentally issues. Has a very strong game but once it starts to break down has problems. He's about the same skill-wise but his volley weakness and mental problem make him weaker in matches (plus he's a good bit shorter than me)
3. Senior. All court player who likes spin and slice. He started playing a good bit more recently than than me and #2 but he's been playing obcessively in the off-season and has gotten a lot better.
After the top three we have a lot of players who are around the same skill level but are still a good strength who will round out the rest of the team in doubles. They are mostly baseline players and will be playing doubles. On the girls side we have a bunch of good singles players who are going to fight for those spots and will have a good team there too.
As a side note we have a girls doubles team consisting of an extremely short girl (trying not to use the word midget) and a girl with a prostetic leg who combine to somehow make a good doubles team even though they can't take anything serously.

our team doesnt look good this year. 5 of our rrreeally good players graduated and there is a huge gap now between the #1 varsity and everybody else. im currently working my butt off to be varsity. heres my predictions for the people that will take the 5 spots:
1. will: baseliner/grinder(very consistant). prince original graphite MID
2. Patrick: counterpuncher, baseline player. wilcon ncode ntour MP
3. Norman: baseline player, like number 1. flexpoint prestige MP
4.Andy: baseline, plays with plenty of topspin. yonex RDS 003
5. Anybody can take this spot. this spot is up for grabs and this is my opportunity to take a shot at varsity.
the rest of the team:
1. Joe M. our #1 singles player. all around. wilson ncode nblade MP
2. Joe J. our #1 doubles player. he can be #2 singles but he chooses to play doubles. all around. babolat pure drive
3. Aseem. very consistant player, the other teams hate him and call him a pusher. babolat pure drive
4. Jimmy. very good serve, baseline player. wilson k factor k six one

My high school is going to have a tough year, I think.
1. Senior, baseliner, flexpoint prestige, 4.5 (Has to consistently play against 5.0-5.5)
2. Junior, counterpuncher - pusher, liquidmetal radical MP, 3.5 (noone can beat him, his fitness is great)
3-5 (order TBD).
Sophmore, pusher, flexpoint radical MP, 4.0
Sophmore, all court, n code 6.1 95, 4.0
(me) sophmore, all court-counterpuncher, AG200, 4.0
6. Junior, pure drive roddick, baseliner, 4.0
as you can see, having 3 sophmores with little varsity experience in the top 5, we are going to struggle a bit. Although, in a couple years, we will be #1 in the state again.

Hi, i'm new but our high school is division 1A, but we are going to have a strong team. Trinty Christian is in Florida, so compitetion is fierce. In state, there will be 4 academies at state. Anyway, our team will go like this:
Singles 1#: Strong 5.0, Flexpiont Radical midplus
Singles 2#: me or other guy, both strong 4.5, I play with liquidmetal Radical, other plays with Flexpiont prestige
Singles 3#: One of the above
Singles 4#: Decent 4.0, plays with NTour 2
Singles 5#: Weak 3.5, plays with n6.1
All of our alternates are 3.0
P.S: My brother is the number 1 player on our team and we make a strong 9.5 doubles team, oh, and by the way, this is the boys team.

ive been thinking about my selection but after thinking for awhile this should b our true ladder.
singles 1 - me - k90/ag200 - junior
singles 2 - senior - head ti.radical (if serious) but between 2 and 3 its can be other way around
singles 3 - junior - nblade - will improve
singles 4 - senior - lmrad - not forsure about joining
doubles 1 - senior/senior - diablo tour/s2
doubles 2 - junior/senior - prince hybrid/ fxp rad team
doubles 3 - senior/senior - npro/pd os
im still not sure bc of season not starting yet and that more than 95% of team is lazy

You guys have it made. My son's team:
#1 - My son who is a solid player that took 2nd in then city championship and got to the quarterfinals of state as a freshman.
#2 - decent natural player who has never had a formal lesson
All the rest: pick up tennis racquets at the beginning of the HS season.
Unfortunately, we live in an area that isn't high-income so tennis isn't too popular.

You're right - it's a very low income area BUT, there are pockets of people attending the school that are pretty well off. That's the same with Red Mountain High School in Mesa - per capita income is very low, but there are people who live at the country club that attend the school and they are the tennis team - and just about the only good tennis team in Mesa.
BTW, they (Catalina Foothills) should be almost unbeatable this year; probably would win state in 5A. Their depth is unbelievable,

My states high school tennis is so much different than everyone elses..
girls and boys are combined, there are 19 matches, 6 boys singles 3 boys doubles, 6 girls singles 3 girls dubs, and mixed. If you get ten, you win.
There is no city, it goes:

Regionals
State
Top 2 teams from each district go to regionals-there are like 300-400 5A teams
winner of the regional tourney goes to state-there are 16 teams in each region, 4 regions in the state
4 teams make state
thats fall team tennis
and we have spring tennis too, which is individual, and each team gets 2 girls singles, 2 girls dubs, 2 boys singles, etc.
then its all the same except the top two people/doubles teams make state so there are 8 people in spring state
we dont go by ntrp ratings, teams get ranked in the state based on their amount of supers, champs, last years performance, current performance
Boys:
1. 18s supers
2. 18s supers
3. 16s supers
4. 18s supers
5. 18s champs
6. 18s champs
7. 18s champs
Girls:
1. 18s supers
2. 16s supers-level (doesnt play usta)
3. 16s supers
the rest of our girls suck
4. 16s zats
5. 16s zats
6. 16s zats
7. 16s zats
alot different..wow

Although I'm not eligible to play this year (private school with no team), the school I thought I'd be able to play for is looking very strong. I was hoping to squeeze in at varsity singles 4. However, we're stuck in the same league as Mission, so it really depends on how they play this year, considering they lost 11 seniors of the 25 person team, including all their dubs and varsity singles 1.

Lol, all these big city people and here I am in the middle of nowhere Missouri. All well...
#1/2 - Either me, Junior S&V 3.75 with Dunlop M-fil 200 or a Senior Counter-puncher (in the loosest sense of the term) 3.75 with a Stretch 6.1 who is fast as lightning (All-district soccer player)
#3 - 3.5 Senior Shotmaker (a big time spaz, but when he's on his game, not a whole lot is going to stop him, including us top 2 players) with Babolat Pure Drive
#4 - 3.5 Senior Santoroesque Pusher (slices almost exclusively on forehand with one hand, awesome 2-hander) using Maxply McEnroe Graphite
#5 - 3.5 Senior Counterpuncher (nothing gets past him, so fast and strong, pretty big serve too) using POG Mid
#6 - 3.25 Freshmen All-courter (does everything well but nothing truly stands out, great athlete) using Microgel Radical MP
Like to add that everyone on varsity but me is also a varsity soccer player (#2-5 all district). Good team this year, BAD team next year (my Senior year).
A 3.5 using a 6.1? That's almost funny to me...

Yeah I know, we are awful. We lost 5 out of the top 6 last year. Plus we live in the Y-Town Virginia, tennis isn't that big here. My senior year we will be great though. Our rivals up north, Jamestown in Williamsburg always have an outstanding team.
i have beaten the two and three on j'town there top play is sweet

I live in Indiana where tennis is classless and backwards - the boys' season is in the fall and the girls' is in the spring. This season was my final (I'm a senior) and we kept all of our streaks alive. I worked hard and became our alternate. WE made it to the finals of our semi-state but got knocked out in a 1-4 decision. Our #1 doubles stayed alive and went on to get runners-up in the State Individual Tourney. My team's regional streak is currently at 13 years and Sectional streak is something like 17 or 18 years. Very prestigious team that I am proud to have been a part of.

we had a solid team(i live in michigan so we played in the fall already)
1.dave/grinder-volleyer/5.0
2.nate/all courter/4.5
3.me/baseliner/4.5
4.michael/pusher/4.0
5.matt/all courter 1 dubs/3.5
6.drew/BEAST 6'7" 1dubs/3.5
our 1-3 singles are going to be seniors next year and our 4 is a sophmore next year. we lose just about everyone past our singles and we'll be left with like some 2.0-2.5 players :(. we could still make top 5 in state next year

Our team in minnesota is in trouble this year. First because we lost 1 & 3 doubles and then we lost 2 & 4 singles.
This spring line up.
Singles
1) All courter 5.0
2) New this year so I don't know likely 5.0
3) baseliner 4.5
4) Pusher 4.0
Doubles
1) Probably a 4.5/4.5 combo
2) Me and my friend 4.5/4.5
3) well no more good people so 3.0/3.5

hm.. i was looking on how your high school teams set up the singles and doubles and to me its wierd how some of you guys have like 4 singles and 3 doubles teams. Here we have the 3 singles and then the 2 doubles teams.
1st singles- me/senior 5.0
2nd singles- senior 4.5
3rd singles- 4.0
Doubles 1- 4.0.3.5 combo
Doubles 2- 3.5/3.0 combo

Well I went to what when I played them. We have actually quite a few above 5.0... look at Wyatt Mccoy and the whole team at Mounds View. They are freaking creepy. Anyway I guess I did overrate our team a little bit but still, we do have good people in minnesota...

My HS team just lost all the seniors so its time to rebuild a bit.
Vallejo High School
No real lineup havent started season yet.
last year i was #6 singles - freshmen
this year we have a lot of new people and no freshmen. Bad thing is that we get no funding from the school. we buy our own things. uniforms, gear, balls, ect.
After this year though i think i'll be done with Hs tennis depending on the coach. I believe i'll extend myself to USTA if i give up HS tennis.

It's my first year in the team, but I've known many people enough to describe them. =]
The school has been City Champions for 6 years in a row so far, something like that? and iono much more xD
For my school:
Last year's line-up.
Singles:
#1:Sophomore 5.0 (I think that's what they said). very good groundstrokes and serves
#2:Junior 4.5 his serve was not very good last year, but his groundstrokes and returns were bombs.
#3:Senior iono rating prolly 4.5. great at everything, just probably less consistent as our #2
#4:Senior 4.0-4.5 counterpuncher. never lost a match during season. he's like iceman O_o he barely chokes.
Doubles:
#1:got a great netman that finishes off points quickly paired up with a partner with pretty solid volleys and overheads (though the other netman is BAM) and sets up the BAM guy :] probably 4.0 and 3.5
#2:one of them is our current captain this year. both guys have some of the best kick serves in the team. a lot of action on the ball and solid net play. but they frame a bit more than most top guys. probably same
#3:our #3 doubles team does not have the best groundstrokes, but they both have awesome volleys, and our school does serve and volley like every service game O_o they beat doubles 2 and 3 of the team that won the playoff thing.
=] The lineup is pretty much the same this year. Except singles 3 and 4, and a few doubles teams.
New people include 3.5s-4.0s. I'm a baseliner with good serves and groundstrokes similar to our #2 but less pop and I choke a lot T_T. We gots two prodigies from 10th grade =] both have very steady groundstrokes, and one has great volleys (none of us have the smash like our doubles 1 though). we're probably going to be switched off for doubles and singles. we might have an 11th grade guy, pretty tall in our school 6ft 2in I think? Great serve and overhead. we're all working on making our volleys more solid, but they're good enough to play well. but we want HOT And cexy volleys. =] Last, we have a great senior, iffy groundstrokes, but if he gets to the net and doesn't choke/try to be cute, he'll win the point with a putaway volley/overhead.
School: We don't get much funding, not even sure if we get over $500 or so, any. but we've got balls (xD) (+the DETERMINATION! :D), and great coaches
well I hope you understood all that *beep. O_o

We're not looking so good this year, but we're definitely setting up for next year. We have no seniors, so no one's going to graduate this year.
This is how i think it'll go
1. Sophomore - Thinks he's bad, but he's not. at all. - k90
2. Junior - Really high confidence. can challenge no.1 - nblade
3. (Maybe) Junior - dunno much about him. Wasn't on the team last, but trained - flexpoint prestige
4. (maybe) Junior - Counterpuncher with good shots, but is too afraid to use them - keeps on switching. Currently interested in the k90
5. (Maybe) Sophomore - okay shots, bad athleticism - nblade
6. (Maybe) Junior - Style similar to number 4, but he's getting better fast - PD
Doubles is never a set thing. If two players play well together, they might play, they might not. Its a toss-up.
Otherwise, everyone likes tennis, and looks forward to the season. That's all that really matters.

We went 13-0 for the season, 10-0 in league (three matches weren't league matches), and 70-0 for individual matches in league play. It feels pretty good to pull off a perfect season. :D
Here's my school's varsity team:

You can see that they are also undefeated for the season. They're starting to head into CCS playoffs.

Our no. 7 on Varsity is a 4.5....so i'd assume it only gets better from there.
On a bright note, our Varsity team beat the team with the no 2 (i think 18's) player in the nation, (Casey, i think? i'm more busy sucking on the JV team...). Of course, our no. 1 singles player got ass-whooped by him, but hey...
