If you want it for gaming (which i think you do). I'd suggest getting an Xbox 360, the games there and the online service is something you dont get on the PC.
Both have really good games and exclusives.. Most of PC games are FPSs and RTSs (like starcraft).
The Xbox has a lot of shooters and adventure games
It also depends on your budget for the PC, you could build a really good computer to run everything from the current generation, or build something that wont run every game out there.
Whit the xbox you just have to worry about your batteries.

i'm pretty sure you can build your own computer and if you have enough ram, a good processor, enough hard drive space, and a good graphics card, you can play basically any game out there. to me the PC is a better deal. online is the same deal, you're playing with people around the world. nothing has to be special about it as long as you can connect and play

It would cost so much more to have a PC that games better than the current game consoles. Of course the PC has more potential because there is new graphics cards coming out, but right now it's better to go with a 360.

360 and a couple racquets? Dayum haha, you are going to have a good christmas my friend. Go with the 360, it's too costly trying to keep up in the PC department.

I'd take the xbox 360 and a couple of rackets. Not just that but I find xbox 360 games better then PC games.

Depending on what you are looking for.
Get the xbox360 is you only play game.
Get the PC is you do other things with the machine, like word processing for example.
It also dpends on what kind of games are you interested it. Console games are more pick up and play; While the learning curve of some PC games are very very steep so it will require more time to just learn the game.
Since you actually ask should you get a computer or xbox360, the xbox is probably more for you. :)
1.) If you have a need for it, a computer is far more useful.
2.) A top of the line computer can be had for around $1500, less if you find an old monitor, keyboard, mouse, and speakers.
3.) Any dual platform game (360 and PC) will be better on the PC bar none, unless you are a raving lunatic who enjoys the gamepad over mouse+keyboard.
4.) Pick whichever platform has the most games you are interested in. Browse sites like metacritic.com, gamerankings.com, and other gaming sites and check out what games are available for each.

Wow. Are you being sarcastic here? No console has or will ever stand up to the online capabilities of the PC. Not possible. Same deal with hardware, PC will always either start out ahead (the consoles this generation were never more powerful than PC's of the time), or quickly pull ahead with a few short months of the consoles release.

With the better laptops you can get almost the full PC experience and it's easily portable, unlike the consoles. Games usually go to consoles first, but most ports are better on the PC albeit at a later time. Games that never go to PC are usually twitch games, which aren't my favorite games anyway. Others will have other preferences.

I say get a 360, if you like the xbox live community. Downloadable content and the like is great, that being said I've never been able to get into playing games on my PC, I'm just not a mouse and key board kind of guy. The 360 requires no hardware upgrades to play the best games on the market, whereas if you get a PC you'll need to update things like your graphics card and RAM to continue playing the Killer Apps that come out every now and then. And besides, if you get a 360, then you still get a couple of racquets which sounds like a great deal to me.

if you look at Xbox live with the arcade, marketplace, and most of its features it is sometimes superior than the "look for servers double click join" of pc games..

I am Don Nguyen and I am here to ask you a question:
Is a man not entitled to have games of high caliber?
No, says the man at Microsoft. We make games for 12 year olds and frat boys.
No, says the man at Nintendo. We make minigames for casual gamers.
No, says the man at Sony. We don't even make games.
I rejected those answers. Instead, I chose something
different. I chose the impossible. I chose…
PC.

I don't have one, so I will have to ask.
Can you go to arcade and/or marketplace while you are inside a game in xbox?

Pst... They were all made by him. :-?
I would go with a new computer. Even though my is still getting 70 stable FPS on Source (Which I bought and built for 800 2 years back), An even hotter PC would be sweet for Crysis and heavy modded UT3. I'd wait for the new Penryn CPUs come out and DROP IN PRICE... I think my computer can last me until college.

HAHAHA! PC gamers have been playing online since 1994 or around there. And you know what? I've never had to pay $50/year to be able to play online.

PC > X360 + racquets IMO. I don't like the idea spending money for Xbox Live... You could do more online with the PC. Then again, I don't have an X360 so my opinion won't count as much as the others that have both.
You could always buy the X360 controller (what I do) for the PC. However, the mouse and keyboard is better for FPSes and RTSes. I started FPS gaming with the controller, also....

Apparently you guys cant comprehend the words that I type. Not really surprising considering how dumb most of the xbox kiddies sound while playing.

I wouldn't get a xbox 360. The failure rate on those things are ridiculous. Takes about a month to ship it to microsoft and get either a new one back or they fix up your old one. Most of my friends that own one end up not playing much on it for fear of it breaking down again.
