View Full Version : Serves landing short

Okay, this is my problem that I'm having. My second serve, which is a kick serve is coming up short in the service box, probably around at half, or 3/4 in the box.

The serve it self has tons of kick to it, it bounces somewhat around the chest area. It is a consistent serve, goes in around 90% of the time.
But since its landing so short, the other player would probably have the net covered by now. I tried almost everything to get it to land around the service box line, but it goes out.. having a faster racket head speed gets it to land even shorter lol.

So any tips on how fix this situation? Oh, and some other information on my serve is that I have very deep Knee bend *don't know if that make sense*
So I jump into the ball on the kick serve

Thanks in advance :)

You are probably not tossing the ball into the court.Toss the ball so that it lands 1 foot inside the baseline.

yu want to toss your ball out a little more and really use your kness to produce a lil jump.
utalizing your knees and forward ball toss will give you the extra depth and more power that'll add to your kick serve

Oh, I've tried that.. but it doesn't seem to produce the kick I want it to.

Maybe I'm just hitting it wrong from that toss placement.

Once again thanks in advance :)

one more thing about kick.
im sure you are aware of having the ball toss behind our head and thats a good thing.
but remember the more you brush up and through the more spin and depth you'll get.
i hope my advices work for you!
if you need any more info just let me know

Internet instruction of your service motion, without accompanying video is going to be very problematic. You may have a problem you don't know about and that we can't see.

You could post a video.

You could get a lesson from a teaching pro. (best suggestion, IMHO)

You could take two weeks off, then quit. :) j/k, of course. (That was Lee Trevino's advice to an amateur golfer, btw.)

You could stumble along here.

Good luck, mate.

Try aiming your serve for past the service line so the ball will land out and then all of the topspin will bring it down into the service box, hopefully deeper in the box.

Flatten it out a little. You may have less spin, but you'll get more depth.

I would prefer depth over spin if your spin is that great.
Sacrificing a little bit of spin for the depth of your ball should not be that much of a worry.

I agree with all those advice posted... none mention hitting higher with even more spin... if thats possible.

Just brush more aggressively upward when you toss into the court--it's the spin that will give you kick despite the fact that throwing above and behind lets you attain it easier. If you don't want to change that, though, you should just work on angling your kick serves or hitting at the body.

If you look up longer, you will tend to hit deeper because you will not drop your head.

As others mentioned, work on hitting up. Your ball should ideally sound like a brush (swish) and not a hit (thump). Aim high and clear the net by 4-6 feet.
