Hey guys,

Any news on the 'new frame' that appears to be the new RDS001 as discussed in this thread (http://tt.tennis-warehouse.com/showthread.php?t=173487)?

Does anyone know anything about the frame yet?
Release date?
Can I maybe expect to see it at the AO when I go next week?
Any specs?

Cheers guys,

OO.

I dont know if you want to call it "new" per say...a new paintjob yes, but no one is sure if it is a new racket with any tangible updates.

It does look good though.

I know, that's why I put the 'new frame' in inverted commas and posted this thread, to find out information!

Do you guys dig the new paint job? I would choose the solid yellow frame every time.

Whoops, I read right past the comma's :)

I am not expecting any large change in the frame. Yonex Updated the RD Ti-803 times and onlt made signifigant changes for the 3rd iteration, the RDS 002, otherweise the previous versions were very similar.

Althought that one is just a paintjob... I think the new RDS001 will also feature the "aerobox variframe" like the RDS0002 and also a newer "soft grommet" system in the corners of the frame.
Probably the black paint highlights the new shaft material - "super whacky nano cone stack technology", too!

I agree. When I saw this new colorway I thought "Whoa what's that?" then I look at the pictures more and more and realise the orignal paint job is sweeter.

We've not met with Yonex yet to discuss new products. This is not uncommon as Yonex tends to release first in its home market before introducing products in the USA.

Thanks for the super-fast response Chris. Guess I'll just hope they therefore release it at the AO based on the good-old marketing push as the 'grandslam of Asia Pacific' :)

I would buy it just because it's a bit different if and only if it is COMPLETELY unchanged.

Right. Spoke to Yonex today at the AO and also held the frame, took photos of it and also the spec sheet. Seems the only differences to speak of are the new (softer / more feel) grommets and the matt paint job (yup - it's more matt than gloss).

I'll post all in a thread soon....

I like the look of the new 003, though it bothers me that they make it 27.25 inches instead of 27.5...

It's just that the number itself bothers me...

I have found Yonex to be excellent with answering E-mails. Babolat and Prince do a good job as well. Wilson on the other hand, not so good.

New cosmetic.

Soft gromms moved to corners to improve feel.

Spec remains the same.

not sure if this has been posted yet. but i just got back from the tennis shop and i saw the new paint job of the rds001. at 3 and 9 instead of white it's now more grey and the rest of the frame is yellow. but instead of a shiny paint job it's the whole thing is matte.

The rackets are nearly identical, if not identical. One could purchase grommets for the new version, and put them on the old RDS 001 and be halfway to the new racket.

I don't understand.

Is there actually a difference aside from the paint jobs?

And the new ones are entirely unattractive.

Yonex, seriously, what's the point?

Vitaly Evchenkov
02-16-2008, 07:11 AM
a lot of people on the boards have said that it looks foolish for racquet manufacturers to come out with a new "technology" each year to sell a tennis racquet.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Liquid-microgel-aerogel-nano-ti-kfactor-gummetal-nfoam-magnetic gobbledgook
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

But just having the pros get new paint each year might not be enough to get
people to switch.

We all want to be Federer, and maybe we think .0001 percent of the difference is karophite/[k]arbon ??!?!?

Diehard Nalbandian fans might switch just for the new paint but otherwise, softer grommets in the corners isn't going to make people ditch their old frames.
But hopefully, it is a statement by Yonex saying:

"we made a great racquet in 2006, and it is still good in 2008!"

but sell the "outdated, played out, old, drab" colored RDS frames at a discount, or else I won't think the NEW paint is that great of an update!!! :)

I agree!! I actually wanted to buy the new one one until I realized that it costs the same price as the old one, which must mean that it's not any better.

SFrazeur
02-16-2008, 10:16 PM
If people will still buy the previous models at the regular price then there is no reason to discount. For instance, Babolat racquets are rarely discounted on the internet. I think people get spoiled, albeit rightfully, by Wilson and HEAD allowing deep price drops of "out of fashion" racquets.

That's because Wilson and Head come out with better racquets all the time. You can tell because they cost more than previous models.
