What are some of your favorite movie scenes? Here are few of the more riveting variety that come to mind…

A Few Good Men – Cruise and Nicholson thunder away at each other in the courtroom – “You can’t handle the truth!”

Good Will Hunting – Williams gives it to Damon on the park bench – “Your move, chief”

The Queen – Mirren loses her composure a bit after seeing the buck, but then steels herself again

Gladiator – Crowe reveals his identity to Phoenix in the arena – “My name is Maximus Decimus Meridius… father to a murdered son, husband to a murdered wife. And I will have my vengeance, in this life or the next”

Thinking of scenes, as opposed to simply quotes, a few that have stood out in my mind have been (I reserve the right to add more later):

When Harry Met Sally - the scene at the end on New Year's Eve when Harry realizes he is in love with Sally and runs through the streets to make it to her on time...followed by the speech he gives her.

Steel Magnolias - the funeral scene when Sally Field's character breaks down and lets it all out...followed immediately by the "hit Wheeza" moment. Laughter through tears is the best and I cry and laugh every time I see that scene (which has been too many to count).

Some Kind of Wonderful - the party scene at the end of the movie when they walk in and are confronted by her ex-boyfriend who proceeds to try to make her "beg" for his forgiveness in front of all her old friends...followed by the "tough" but gentle guys bustin' in to take over...followed by the giving of the earrings. Damn that was a good movie.

The Outsiders - the rumble scene, it starts to rain on the brawl as Matt Dillon comes barreling down the hill to join in. Priceless.

The Notebook - when it starts to rain on their canoe excursion and the emotions are mounting and everything just comes to a head, the letters, the waiting, the love that never diminished...followed by the infamous kiss.

300 - when the king looks to the queen and she nods slightly (a symbol of how much he respects her)...followed by kicking the messenger into the hole. Amazing adrenaline moment.

A few other moments:

Young Guns - yelling "regulators saddle up" as they head off to their fate.

Pulp Fiction - the needle straight in the heart.

Crash - the racist cop pulling the black woman he had previously assaulted from the burning car.

Fast Times at Ridgemont High - the pizza scene in the classroom.

The Departed

Mark Wahlberg (Dignam) tells Leonardo DiCaprio (Costigan) that he and Captain Queenan are the only 2 people alive that even know Costigan's a cop. How about we erase your file and you're just another soldier for Costello open to arrest for I don't know how many felonies. Costigan gets ****ed, knocks Dignam's coffee from his hand, and says, how about I ****in kill you? How about I ****in kill you?

The instigating from Wahlberg's character was great and DiCaprio's reaction was priceless.

I don't watch many movies - but of the few I've seen, these stand out:

Airplane -
- "Surely you can't be serious."
- "I am serious. And don't call me Shirley."

Good Will Hunting –
- "It's not your fault..." (repeated several times).

Excellent choice Nuke. That as well as the scene from Scrooge where Alastair Sim chases his maid down the stairs in a delirious craze are two that crossed my mind as well.

One of my favourite oldies:

"You mean Shenanigans?"

Pulp Fiction

Samuel L Jackson as Jules

"The path of the righteous man is beset on all sides by the inequities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men. Blessed is he who, in the name of charity and good will, shepherds the weak through the valley of the darkness. For he is truly his brother's keeper and the finder of lost children. And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who attempt to poison and destroy my brothers. And you will know I am the Lord when I lay my vengeance upon you."

Boondock Saints, when the cat gets shot. Also, the ending courtroom scene.

300- chest kicks, shield smacks, etc.

V For Vendetta - Revealing the backstory.

"The Boondock Saints" director Troy Duffy let his huge ego get out of control and the studios shut him down. He ended up seeing almost no money from the theatrical release and DVD (which is making considerable money).

The documentary "Overnight" is greatly enjoyable; it documents how he became completely full of himself, bullied everyone, and lost everything. He pretty much shot himself in the head.

Great scenes:

* When Harvey Weinstein pulls the huge deal away from Troy Duffy in "Overnight."
* The "You're no cop" scenes from "The Departed" where Mark Wahlberg interviews DiCaprio and Damon for jobs.

Many scenes from "Night of the Hunter"

Shelly Winters, dead under the water, the children boating down the river, the famous scene about good versus evil.

All of "Citizen Kane". The scene where the camera cranes down into the nightclub, his wife doing jigsaw puzzles in fromt of the huge fireplace, the last scene of Rosebud thrown into the flames.

Some nice scenes in "Peewee Herman's Big Adventure". Inside the t-rex, riding his bicycle, Walking down the shadowed alleyway and growling at onlookers.

"The wizard of Oz", The tornado scen with Dorothy in the house, when she opens the door and everything is in color, the fielf of poppies.

Rita Hayworth singing "Put the Blame on Maime"- from "Gilda" (I think).

The scene in the house of mirrors in "The Lady from Shanghi".

"Wayne's World" where the airplains are flying overhead.

Many scenes from "Magnolias". Where the Tom Cruise character goes on a crazy rant, the rain of frogs, where the characters begin singing the same song.

Some movie I don't know the title (Japanese?) where a large man-like figure made of clay pulls a giant spike out of his own forehead and impales his enemy on a high archway.

A scene from an old movie, "Diamonds and Crime" where the characters sit around a table and do double-takes.

The Marx brother's "A Night at the Opera" Where it seems like hundreds of people are packed into a tiny room.

When Humphry Bogart climbs out of the river in "African Queen" all covered with leeches, then has to go back in to pull the boat.

The Shower murder scene in Hitchcock's "Psycho".

In "Forbidden Planet", when the id-creature is burning through the impenetrable walls.

In Cocteau's "La Belle et la Bete"- many scenes.

"Pan's Labrynth" many scenes, the officer stitching his own mouth.

"Amelie" when she sticks her hand into a sack of grain and other scenes.

Too many to go on-- scenes from "Metropolous" Busby Berkley films, "King Kong" (original), "Fantasia", "The Day the Earth Stood Still", "A Clockwork Orange", "Alien", "Manhattan", "Blade Runner", "Chinatown" (She's my sister, she's my daughter..), "Dr. Strangelove", "Shane", "Taxi Driver"...

V (Hugo Weaving) - "Voilà! In view, a humble vaudevillian veteran, cast vicariously as both victim and villain by the vicissitudes of Fate. This visage, no mere veneer of vanity, is a vestige of the vox populi, now vacant, vanished. However, this valorous visitation of a by-gone vexation, stands vivified and has vowed to vanquish these venal and virulent vermin van-guarding vice and vouchsafing the violently vicious and voracious violation of volition."

American Gangster

Lucas walks out of church, the streets are completely empty, the whole neighborhood is surrounded by cops. 2 agents escort his mother and wife back inside the church and shut the door. Below the steps, Roberts is waiting for him.

I'll throw in some more recent ones:

Cloverfield - "I think the camera has night-vision."
"Oh, my God..."
"What? Hud, what!?"
"Run! Oh my God, just start running! Now!"

And the scene where they get caught between the monster and the army on the street.

It's A Wonderful Life, the "curtain call" ending where all the townspeople show up to help George Baily in his moment of need. "Teacher Says whenever a bell rings, an angel gets his wings." "Atta boy, Clarence. Atta boy." The cast sings Auld Lang Syne.

And Annie comes in to dump her money in the basket for George and says "I've been saving this money for a divorce if ever I get a husband"

The Gods must be crazy -- when the lady being carried across the pond finally falls in :-D

Great movie! I love it when the jeep is in reverse, he jumps out of the drivers seat and squats on the hood to drive it looking forward!

Many many more great scenes (Gods must be crazy) ... when he shakes hands with the lady, or when they accidentally kiss. However, sadly the sequels got worse and worse. I don't think I could get thru the third one, when the bushman is in Japan (iirc).

Scarface; The scene were Frank begs Tony for his life. I actually felt sorry for Frank.

The Godfather; The scene when Michael blows away the gangster and crooked cop. That was intense.

Apocalypse Now; The scenes with Robert Duvall, especially the surfing one. Totally insane!

Cool Hand Luke; "What we got here is failure to communicate" lol

Gladiator – Crowe reveals his identity to Phoenix in the arena – “My name is Maximus Decimus Meridius… father to a murdered son, husband to a murdered wife. And I will have my vengeance, in this life or the next”

Everytime i watch that scene i feel like fighting a random stranger on the street. Go gladiator.

Invincible - when Papale makes a big hit on the kickoff, and then points to his buddies in the stands. Right after that they play the Nugent song "Stranglehold", and that's when I want to hit something!

The scene from Tombstone when Johnny Ringo first meets Doc Holliday at the Oriental and they start speaking in Latin.

Doc Holliday: In vino veritas.
Johnny Ringo: Age quod agis.
Doc Holliday: Credat Judaeus apella, non ego.
Johnny Ringo: Eventus stultorum magister.
Doc Holliday: In pace requiescat.
Tombstone Marshal Fred White: Come on boys. We don't want any trouble in here. Not in any language.
Doc Holliday: Evidently Mr. Ringo's an educated man. Now I really hate him.

The scene in Phenomenon where George learns Portuguese to find out where the sick boy is located.

The scene in Rounders where Mike finds out Teddy KGB's tell.

The scene in Snatch where the Tyrone and his buddies are about to rob the bookies and they are parking the car.

Many great scenes in the LOTR trilogy, but one that comes to mind is the crowning of Aragorn, with the reunion with Arwen and the tribute to the Hobbits - "My friends. You bow to no one"

Sorry for being so mean, but the Hobbits are too short to bow to anyone. (attempt at humor)
I will check out this one, it's been a while since I've seen the flick.

Edit: Aah, here it is King of Gondor (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KR7mF-RaOAw). The hobbits look as bewildered in the end as they did in the start - lol.
