So I was doing some serves this morning. I can get some power into my flat serves and are decently consistent, somewhat. As for the topspin serve when i tried it, it seemed slower. It's supposed to go slower right? Also, when i was serving from the right side of the baseline, the ball kept going to the left a lot and therefore, I missed a lot of them. Any suggestions on improvement? Also, it didn't seem to get that so called, "kick" upwards, it just seemed to spin to the left. :-?

If the racquet head moves at the same speed and imparts spin instead of just slamming through the ball, the ball will move forward slower even though the player generated the same racquet head speed. In other words, Yes, the spin serve will be slower than a flat serve.

From your description, you are hitting a slice-serve rather than a kick-serve. You have to get the racquet head moving upwards at impact with the ball in order to get topspin (the factor that changes a slice-serve into a kick-serve). From behind you, make sure your toss is thrown more over your head to the left to position it for a kick or topspin serve.

Mmm... Where is your toss? When you want a kick serve you should throw around 11:00 o'clock ish and bend your back which would allow your swing to swipe the ball at an angle around 45 degree ish.

is pronation the same with kick serves? seems more as though you can arm the ball as opposed to letting loose with a flat

um... throw the ball to your left slightly, i think your doing a slice serve by throwing it a bit to your right

my tosses were just like my flat serves-out in front directly infront of me, and some were to the right. So I guess I can try to move the toss over my head a little and to the left. I also use the continental grip.
