Fitter, but not enough to cut down on the desserts I eat (hmmmm chocolate...)

I don't weight much, but I have a bit of a belly where I store a lot of tiramisu, chocolate, candy and ice cream....

Other: more confident, for me. My confidence is in the crapper lately. Any time I play guys I should dust, they end up getting games off of me. It's pretty damn frustrating.

I'd say taller & stronger. But I guess since it's a wish I'd have to go with taller since there's nothing you can do about your height, while you can always lift and train to get stronger.

It's I wish I was because "was" is a singular verb and "were" is the plural form.

So you would say "We wish we were" and not "We wish we was" unless you were speaking gangsta then it is okay.

If only I could trade some of my smart genes for hott genes...

If you were in good shape before, then it should be easy to get back to that shape. I was scared at the start of this year, but I got back in shape really easily. Good luck, man.

That is incorrect. You would never say "we wish we was", agreed. However in "I wish" you can use either was or were.

In more formal situations were is more appropriate than was.

Ok man this is what I was taught in America maybe I was taught wrong or it is different in England.

All I know is that if I said "I wish I were a girl." I would get points taken off on an essay for SV (subject verb agreement)....... not the part about wishing to be a girl......but...

If I remember correct...

I know it is "if I were..." to describe something impossible, like "if I were you"

Since "I wish I was" here also describe something impossible, so I have this question.

FWIW I believe I was taught "I wish I was" - but it's so long ago I can't remember.

Sorry, back to the subject of the thread!

I would go with the Miss World answer and say, I'm happy with what I am. But, who the **** am I kidding? At 5'6'' , I wouldn't mind adding another half a foot, if it was possible. 5'6'' isn't the best height to play anything except may be gymnastics.

I'm going to go with fitter, it was a close run thing with skinnier.

As to the "were" vs "was" question. The short answer is the formal or correct form is were but the more modern was form is also now accepted as correct. The two are interchangeable today. The convention today is that in formal letters etc.. were is used, in speech either is ok. The observed trend in speech (though not necessarily more correct) is that one is often used with an adjective (were) and the other in all other cases. For example:

- I wish I were stronger

as opposed to

- I wish I was a tennis professional

Thanks Moz. I think I was taught 20+ yrs ago using "If I were". I guess language does change over time, even in a short span of less than 30 yrs.

Sorry for the off topic.

I wish I was :D healthier and/or younger...
