So here is my situation. I want maximum pocketing effect.

I will have 1.28 Blue Gear in the main

From your personal experience regarding maximum "pocketing effect"
1) what would you recommend for the cross string? what string size?
2) what tension for the BG mains?
3) what tension for the non-BG crosses?

I really like the Pro Supex Titan syn gut in 16g and string it around 52/54. That is a really nice feel and tons of spin:twisted:

Sorry for the confusion--52# mains and 54-55# for the crosses:)

The ones I have used with BG is PSGD and Titan.
PSGD is a little stiffer than Titan if that is how you like your string bed. Titan playes softer. I just got some K gut as a sample but havn't tried. Mulit's with BG IMO won't last.

A little off topic but here goes. Does anyone know how to keep the crosses from moving up and down with Blue Gear Mains and a soft multi cross? I really like the way BG at 59 mains and NRG2 crosses at 57 plays but the crosses are always moving around and it's really distracting.

your solution is to find a string stronger than multi. That is either synthetic gut or natural gut.

How much life do you people get out of your BG hybrids? I am just curious if I should try this, but I dont want the cost to get out of hand.

I got about 6 hours out of BG 1.25 and PSGD 17g, before I started to notice a drop off in feel. I just restrung with BG 1.28 and Titan 1.25.

Which one plays better in the hybrid, the 1.28 or the 1.25?

In agreement here-I seem to get about 6-8 hrs and then it starts become noticeably dead feeling.

I tend to like the 1.28 a little better over the 1.25, mainly due to the insane spin of the thicker gauge.

I agree as well. The BG 1.28 produces more ball action.

Just happens that I played my first time with a full set of Blue Gear 1.28 in my POG mid tonight.

Pros - wicked topspin, nice power. everything was falling in. I was able to hit more of the ball and plow through more with the blue gear, because the extra spin kept dropping the ball in the court. great stuff for aggressive baseline play.

Cons - lack of feel. I had it strung pretty stiff at 60# because I like a firmer string bed. the blue gear felt kind of mushy and muted on contact. volleys were not the best.

A little syn gut in the crosses should give you a bit more depth and feel and alleviate at least some of your issues. I personally like BG much better as a hybrid.

Hyogen, do a google search and the retailer will pop up. I've not tried blue gear in the pure storm tour but have used Big Ace extensively in that stick and it's a great setup. I hybrid it as well with any syn gut cross and the PST plays great with it. I would think BG would work as well.

As a further note, I usually play with a std length PDR and I had a hit today with the XL version. My timing was just slightly off. I could pound the ball but I didn't have that pinpoint control I have with the std length-especially at net. I think you made the right choice on your std PST's ;)

yeah i just did. crazy looking string! I must try it.

thanks, I think I made a good choice on the PST std too :D

I think i'm gonna stock up on this stuff PSGD, a little bit of luxilon, and a lot of blue gear..and a little bit of natural gut.

You won't be disappointed in the BG 1.28

how many hours does it last you?

PED

The BG works well-even after the gears wear down. It eventually goes dead. 9 or 10 hours seems to be what it last me.
The best setup in the PST with cost as no object is alu rough mains and syn gut crosses. The soft flexy nature of the PST combined with the alu is deadly! I strung it 50 mains and 53 on the syn gut crosses and the combo of power and control is solid.

I use either Pro supex titan or Pro supex spiral flex. The titan is very very soft(did I mention that it's soft) and the spiral flex is crisper and has a bit more "energy". I like them both, it just depends on what characteristics you are looking for. PSGD would work equally well.

Ive used 1.28 BG in my mains with Gosen OG Micro and the feeling is incredible. Very solid and youre ablle to plow through any ball with great spin and force :D btw, my tension is 52/54

Ooops, just noticed this. Which gauge Titan or Spiral Flex?

Would Gosen OG Micro 18 gauge last very long?

PED

I don't think the OB 18g would last long at all since the BG is pretty rough with the gear shape. I always opted for 1.30 crosses but the 1.25 works equally well.

Does Blue Gear 1.28 crossed with Gosen OG Sheep Micro feel too hard and boardy?

(I'm thinking BG 1.28 on the mains at 52, and Gosen OG 1.22 on the crosses at 55.)

Or should I get some Titan to cross with the BG and soften things up?

Hi all. Merry Xmas.

BG-GOSEN(58lbs) & BG-X1(54lbs) user
http://i328.photobucket.com/albums/l323/takano_tezuka/100_5740.jpg

The racket on the top is using X-1 as crosses.. Bottom is GOSEN

X-1 gives the ultimate feel for me. & power is unmatched but... i lose control most of the time. Ball tend to go long

GOSEN is stiffer feel. But i can feel the ball roll off the string beds instead of being pocketed
