View Full Version : Serious Volkl rating flaw

Alright, something doesn't jive here. Maybe this has been pointed out before but check this out.

Scores on 1) Volkl Tour 10 MP and 2) Volkl Tour 10 V-E mid.
(no return score for Tour 10 MP and a 74 for V-E mid)

Volleys--------- 77, 83
Topspin-------- 75, 73
Slice----------- 75, 83
Groundstrokes-- 77, 78
Serves/OH------ 69, 80
Touch/Feel------ 77, 80
Comfort--------- 81, 80
Stability-------- 78, 83
Maneuverability- 78, 77
Control-------- 82, 83
Power--------- 68, 68

Okay, the V-Engine mid outscores the Tour 10 MP by a total of 29 points!! It is rated six points higher in volleys, 11 points higher in serves, 5 points higher in stability, 8 points higher in slice. Yet, the Tour 10 MP gets a 79 overall and the V-E mid gets a 78!! It doesn't make any sense. The V-E 10 mid seems clearly to be the better racket. Just like the Estusa PBB braided. The 85 overall score is so ridiculous. What's up with these formulas? They confuse the heck out of me.

can anyone explain this discrepency? Thanks.

Yes, the numerical ratings are totally subjective and are not based on any reference point. Many of the reviews are also done by different playtesters that may have differing opinions on how to score different attributes. They may also have diffferent reference points and different criteria. For example, a serve and volleyer may place more importance on, and may know better, how a racquet volleys versus a pure baseliner.

BTW, FWIW, I like the Tour 10 MP much better than the T10 VE Mid.

I've hit with the Tour 10 MP and really liked it. It just seemed a tad heavier to me than I'd prefer and also, not as head light as I'd like.
Why do you like it over the V-Engine 10 mid? Thanks.

Does anybody like the V-E 10 mid better than the Tour 10 MP? If so, why? Thanks.

I have both in my bag at the moment and have switched to the T10VE Mid for the most part. I like how much more control it has over the T10MP since the ball can tend to fly out at times with that stick. Topspin and underspin are easy to generate with both frames (I string both at the upper recommended tension range) but from what others have said about how I hit the ball with the T10VE, my slices don't sit up as much as they do with the T10MP.

Another person that should chime in on this discussion is NoBadMojo/Ed as he plays with the T10MP and previously used the T10VE Mid.
