I recently bought a Babolat pure drive team 110 from the "auction" site which I suspect is a fake. I have uploaded some pictures including a real pure drive cortex which was purchased from a shop.

Can anyone confirm whether it is indeed a fake or not?

I bought one a couple years ago for $125 that I am certain was a fake. I will have to look across the bay and see if I can find the seller for you...

The fake had a PJ similar to the one in the top image you have here.

Another way to check is to look under the grip. All Babolats have a foam palate, so if it is graphite or carbon, its fake!

There is also a bar code under the replacement grip which looks exactly like the one inside the throat.

Did you read the guides to the left that popped up on the infamus site telling you how to spot fake Babolats? I guess you didn't. Never buy from China or Foreign countries period. Also if the price is too good to be true it is. At one point the Andy cortex was going for like $40 from China while in stores for $180 hmm. If it's not too late ask for a refund try to get money back. I don't recommend playing with it because the balance is not correct, and you can hurt your arm also these fakes are prone to breaking easily.

Unfortunately I bought it off **** Australia and the private seller had an 100% feedback rating. The price wasn't too low either so there was no reason for me to doubted it initially. It was listed as a non refundable "as is" sale so I don't think I can get my money back. Either way I want to confirm if it a fake or not?

Anything off e-bay you need to take with a grain of salt.

if you were to compare the old pure drive and the new pure drive w/ cortex make sure to get the same versions.
bc what it seems like is that youre comparing the pd wit the pd w/ cortex.

I bought a fake PDC cortex from the same site In Aus. It was $200 AU, and i ended up getting $100 back but i got to keep the racquet. Its not much of use, because if i restring it, itll probably break lol.
But yeah Gasquet Goat, it does look like a fake. I fell into the trap, and when you find out you cant get a refund it feels like crap

Ok thanks. How do you tell whether it is a fake without looking under the replacement grip?

I wouldn't be that harsh. I'm sure some of the rackets sold on there are fake but the majority of the rackets are most likely authentic. The sellers to look out for are the ones located in Asia or private sellers. I have bought rackets from the big auction site before and they were all authentic.

Australia is too close to ASIA avoid any racquets from that part of the world!

What type of string does it say you should use for optimal performance, my fake PDT says Pro Competitor Range. Also check the balance point, if the racket is head heavy then its a fake

Goat, here's my Babolat, same racquet with paint at yours. I bought it last week from a tennis instructor in our area.

Here is the UPC under the grip.

Many of the rackets on the Bay aren't fake.. they are usually the rackets that are made by companies such as Babolat but don't pass the standards. Some may have manufacturing faults like a chip in the frame internally so the don't play as well as normal rackets.

This is a PD Team OS? What grip size is't? I think my bare grip looks different to yours and I am sure it doesn't that barcode under the grip.

If anything they wouldn't put a fake but cap on a fake racket.. you can pick up real ones for nothing.

This racquet looks perfectly genuine to me. I restring racquets, and play with the Babolat Pure drive Team myself. What you have are two genuine, but different racquets. The one which you think is a fake is in fact a Babolat Pure Drive Team OS (Oversize - 110 sq inch). It is the model before the cortex range came out (and because it is not a current model, this is the reason you got it cheap). It looks just as it should (comparing it with my own all the graphics etc are identical). Your new racquet is the Pure Drive Team Cortex (100 sq inch) - the 'cortex' range is the current model range.
Hope this helps

I'm very well aware that they are different model pure drives. But I have seen a Pure Drive Team of the same generation as my OS, it had for example, foam pallet which my OS doesn't have. And according to a Babolat rep all genuine pure drives should have "TM" beside the word Babolat on the throat while on mine has a "R" instead.

Not if you mass produce those fakes. It'd always be cheaper to manufacture your own butt caps than buying a bulk loads from Babolat.

That's the other thing that concerned me. Mine is a typical counterfeit 4 1/4 size.

my 4-5/8 has BABOLAT (tm) on it, and I know its legit.

Hi GasquetGOAT,

Don't worry!

Regarding the foam pallet issue, I would suggest that you always compare like with like - there are always differences in the construction of different models from the same range - and the PD team and PD Team OS are very different to play with.

I have three Babolat pure drives. All of them have "R" next to the word Babolat on the throat. I obtained 2 from the Babolat rep here in the UK. Don't forget different markets (and you got yours from Aus) have requirements regarding registration of a name, and also I think it depends on the state of the registration of the Babolat name - see something I found on the internet:

"Any time you claim rights in a trademark, you may use the "TM" (trademark on goods) or "SM" (service mark) designation to alert the public to your claim, regardless of whether you have filed an application with the state or USPTO. However, you may use the federal registration symbol "circle-R" only after the federal USPTO actually issues a registration, and not while an application is pending or after registration expires. Also, you may use the registration symbol with the registered mark only on or in connection with the goods and/or services listed in the federal trademark registration. Any major change to the mark or the goods/services will require another registration. Federal registrations require periodic maintenance fees (i.e., every 10 years)."

hope this helps

It's real. Here's a couple pics of my pd 110 team plus. I purchased it from a local US tennis shop. (Sorry for the poor quality, they're from my phone.)

You can see that my buttcap is slim like the one you posted.

Sorry, you can't really tell from this picture, but mine also has (R) next to "Babolat".
