hi all, quick question, How high should your racquet go on your forehand takeback using the racquet or dominant hand as reference point?

Depends on the player, and how long your swing is.

Personally, my takeback is at shoulder height. Maybe a couple of inches higher

my racquet head is around my head/shoulder level on takeback and i use a semi-western grip.

Head high or higher. The higher it is the bigger the stroke, so you need to stay within your means and what you can control.

Head height or higher? Really?
I haven't seen many players with that high of a takeback, besides Gonzalez and Acasuso (the two guys with the looooooooongest swings)

I just opened the Roger video... and it's tru, the hoop is at head height... but I thought we were using the dominant hand as a reference and not the position of the racquet head.

Fed's hitting hand is at shoulder level or so :)

How high you take your racquet back also depends on your swing proficiency and teaching methods. Common teaching methods for beginner to intermediate (sometimes even higher), is to drill short low take backs with wrists cocked backward. This allows a more simplified motion to learn and a foundational shot you can always use when you are in a hurry (usually serve return).

A low to high basic motion can be taught by starting with the racquet waist level or so, swing through with a full finish. As the player starts to get more advanced, you incorporate higher and loopier back swings to incorporate more power. Some like Blake can generate a massive amount of power from a short backswing while most others utilize the circular loop momentum better.
