Even though it's a commercial it still looks pretty cool.

Yeah it is about time this was asked again. You can tell it is a commercial by the way the camera's are lined up and the announcers talk as well. ;)

That's the ONLY time his serve has been effective on clay. ;-)

it acually happend its not just a commercialNo, it never happened. Powerade also has commercials of Michael Vick throwing a football nearly out of a stadium and LeBron James making something like 6 consecutive full-court jump shots--none of them really happened either.

well, actually, i believe that the shots that LeBron made are edited through CGI from Kevin Love's full-court shots. you should youtube kevin love and see his crazy shots from all over the court. as for the vick and roddick, pretty much fake.

Clay courts simply are not that soft underneath the very thin layer of crushed bricks. And a tennis ball is simply not dense enough to get stuck in the court. If it were we'd see this kind of thing happening regularly when players get easy overhead smashes to hit--but we don't. Bottom line there is no official record of a Roddick match where such a thing occured. If it had happened it would have made news around the world. There would be more video, written and cached documentation and it would be shown on every sports highlight or blooper reels there is to this day. Why is it never mentioned on TV when Roddick hits a big serve 'remember that time he hit it so hard it stuck in the ground?' There is no Easter Bunny, there is no Santa Claus, and Roddick never hit a serve that stuck in the ground during a match.

It looked very real to me...

It's fake. We should sticky this, I see this question asked a lot.

I could argue that's not even Roddick. The forehands, even the serving swingspeed looks wrong.

if there was ever such a situation, who would win the point?

This could never happen, so there are no rules about it. Since it's impossible, there's no point on discussing it.

But since the ball never bounced twice, the returner wouldn't lose the point. I'd call a let :p

You know it's Talk Tennis Warehouse when we pick up on these things. :)

But I think you're right. It doesn't look like his forehand or serve.

i'm pretty sure its fake cuz therer are no sponsers or anything on the walls and his strokes look different but i would like to find actual proof that its real or fake.

There are lots of times where the ball never bounces twice but the returner loses the point.

OK, I'll rephrase:

"The ball never bounced, and the returner never hit the ball"

And in case you are dying to say "there are lots of times where the ball never bounces and the returner loses the point", I'll go ahead and re-rephrase my rephrase :p

"The ball never bounced OUT of bounds, and the returner never hit the ball"

:D

after watching this again, ive realized that you guys are right. the strokes dont look quite like roddick. also, why wouldnt roddick just have the chair go look at the ball mark since its clay.

It is fake, it's not physically possible or else players would really screw up the court just running around.

how isn't it, alot of practice and serving all the time you could have the perfect flat that can go into clay

I don't think it is physically possible. Ball has rebound effect when it hits the ground. Ball flatens out as it hits the ground and all that stored up potential energy will propel the ball off the surface. and this energy is greater than the ball trying to dig into the ground.

Couple of giveaways.

1. No ads on the walls. If it was a real tourney, there would be ads everywhere to make more $$$.

2. Am I the first to notice this? The serve is right in the corner, but the sideline judge is not even looking at the line. He's just standing there while the receiver completely obstructs his view.

Yes there is. It is fake. To many things add up to it. The announcers are clearly scripted, Roddick would whine longer than that, the way the cameras are placed and for the other reasons mentioned here.

I was wondering if there is an organization that I can donate my used tennis equipment and/or clothing to? I have been buying new rackets to improve my game (not that it's working). Every time a new piece of equipment comes on the market, I buy it. As a result I have a collection of really good rackets that I am sure someone can use. The same thing with tennis clothes. I have e-mailed this question to the USTA several times and have not received an answer, so I hope you can provide me with an organization or maybe point me in the right direction.
