View Full Version : Head sizes depending court surface
Why does players that play mostly on clay courts use bigger raquets than those who play on hard courts?

because you get more erratic bounces on the clay, and smaller sweetspotted frames (mid size) dont allow you the margin of error you need when you get the erratic bounces. these days, if you hit a nothing ball even on the dirt from missing the sweetspot, your opponent can eat that stuff up if you play pretty high level T. i play only on har tru and would have switched to the t10ve-mid if i was playing hard court T. even many of the pro clay courters use larger headed frames or even oversized. my opinion is that unless you are a very good ball striker, it really doesnt make sense to use a smaller headed frame even on hard courts, especially when there are so many great mid pluses to choose from.

My guess would be that it is generally harder to generate pace on Clay....

Definitely for the high bounce on clay and needing to adjust quickly.
