Before you all get worked up... Please understand that SPONSORSHIP means, for the most part,(at least for juniors), discount packages- not free.

Now these packages go from pretty nice (like Babolat) to just a technique for selling older stuff at a discount and calling it a prefered package (Pretty much Adidas, Fila).

I think someones tag line on this board says it best. "Just let your racquet do the talking" the sponsors will find you. It is all about being a marketable product. Rankings, don't necessarily make you a marketable product either. Sometimes just being committed to the development of your game is enough to get the preferred packages at most 2nd tier companies, especially if you are still in the 12s, 14s.

These companies want solid kids, committed to the development of their game, and a good representation of their brand. As an example I know a player who lost all his "freebees" you name it, sticks, strings, shoes, bags the whole thing and he was highly ranked nationally. Why? Because the sponsors rep happened to be at a tournament where this young man was playing and noticed that he had a major temper attitude after almost every point he won or lost. Obnoxiously arrogant, but highly ranked. When I asked the rep why they pulled the package the reps answer was we don't have time to deal with someone that does not represent the brand professionally.

I would also argue that even if a company has stated minimum requirements, exceptions are made often. Much depends on how hungry the regional rep is to get certain product out there.

Sectional rankings are not always looked at the same since the #5 in a weaker section is probably equivalent to the #50 in a stronger section.

I agree with "let your racquet do the talking". If not, hopefully the reps are at the tournaments - go up and introduce yourself. The personal touch of a face-to-face introduction will always trump some impersonal online application.

Email them or call them, all of their contact info is on their website, you just have to look harder. Their info email address is really all you need to get the ball rolling.

Look at the first post and if you do not meet that criteria, you would just be wasting your time and theirs. Mighty Manfred has already posted that many times on the board.

Once you get a deal, they are great to work with.

people, please realize that these are not "freebies"...I deal with this constantly...they give you great deals...not free stuff!!!

companies give free stuff to SOME pro's and those that are obviously headed that way.

just grow your game and things will happen as they should...those that seek those little things aren't focused on the right things.

please also realize that your status as a amatuer (playing in college) is put into a hazzardous situation everytime you look at it...few players ever play PRO TENNIS.

Finally, if you want to get USTA sponsorships (travel money, entry fees, coaching, etc), you better be in the top 5 for 2 or three years.

Wow, maybe I should try. I just checked my tennis recruiting ranking, it seems I got downgraded to a 3 star, used to be a 4. Didn't have such a great year.

Im like high 100s in the rankings on their list.

Happens all the time. Companies are always trying to lure other players into their company. For example, my brother is with Babolat , but Head sent him a letter of interest to him this year.

they dont really care in my opinion. they sent me a stencil for free, so i guess that means they want me to do it. i mean i have it and i use the stencil only cause i think it makes my racquet look cool :) , but i know with racquet preffered player some make you do it, like head.

If you look closely in the small print at the bottom of the page, the site everyone linked says "Vantage Sports 2007".

To go to the new site, just add ".uk" after the dot com. It'll say 2008 at the bottom and you can fill out the app there.

Does anybody know if any of the companies do sponsorships in Ireland? lol.

There's only like 62 players in the u18's though. I played one small tournament last year and got to the second round so I only have 8 points and am last. This is because I was plagued with injuries in January, February and March and then I missed all of the tournaments over the summer because I was in Spain! So, this year I'm planning on getting into the top 20. First tournaments in 2-3 weeks. Just wondering though, seen as there's only 62 players would you have to be Top 5? Maybe Top 3??

Dont know the requirements for Ireland. But here in the US Babolat has a competition team as they call it where they give u player package with 3 rackets, a bag, 2 shirts, and some other goodies for a highly discounted price. In the US you have to be like top 150 in the country or top 30 or so in your section depending on the section. I know Head offers the same package for top 200 or 30 also. Both also offer full sponsorships for very highly ranked players.

Pro Supex isn't too difficult. I turned down Pro Supex's offer and Adidas offer as I was not going to play tennis anymore. Sorta regret it now and I was only like one more decent tournament away from a half sponsorship from Head, that's what their sponsor said. Sucks but oh well.

This all depends when it was. Yes, it was the partial top 25 thing.
Furthermore, you're a prime example of why our section sucks. People win one match against someone and automatically think that they're the **** now or whatnot. The fact of the matter is that everyone has off days and that everyone gets beat. When you would take yourself out of the score drama and the who beat who **** and just get down to playing tennis and only worrying about improving your game then you will truly see progress.
