how does the scoring system go for team tennis in your area?
Please list all flights (singles and doubs) and location of your team.

Here in Wisconsin: 4 singles players, 3 doubles teams (10 total players). 1st team to win 4 flights wins.

You only play one match, unlike college tennis (where you can play doubs and singles).

Southern California : 3 Singles Matches, 3 Doubles teams. Once you get subbed out you're out. That's Junior Varsity.

Varsity I think you play all three sets. Best out of 18 Matches (3 rounds)

Southern Idaho. We have 3 boys singles, 3 girls singles, 2 boys doubles, 2 girls doubles, and 2 mixed doubles matches. Whichever school wins more matches (everything is best of 3 sets) wins the match. We usually have 2 or 3 matches a week.

High school tennis or team tennis?

In AZ high school, boys/girls are separate w/ 6 singles matches and 3 doubles matches. Singles is 2 out of 3 w/ match tiebreaker instead of full 3rd. Doubles is 8 game pro-set.

NorCal, 4 varsity singles, 3 varsity doubles. We play every match even if one team is up 6-0 :P

On a side note, I've noticed that singles players are almost invariably the stronger players on a team, do you guys think that this is because so many people are "taught" how to play singles while their tennis is just developing?

Here in Kentucky, we play 3 doubles and 6 singles and you can play both doubles and singles because I played #1 singles and #2 doubles. The amount of sets depended on where we were and who we were playing. If we were playing someone big, then it would be best out 3 sets for the singles. If it was somebody that wasn't really good, then it was usually a pro set. Doubles was always a pro set no matter who we played.

In the Pacific Northwest, our league plays 2 singles and 3 doubles. Two out of 3 sets (regular scoring) with the third set being a 10 point super tie-breaker.
I would love to see us go the So.Cal format with each player playing a set against each player.

Iowa
6 singles matches
5 doubles matches

the doubles matches are played after the singles with the same players.
For example our #1 and #3 are a doubles team and #2 and #4 are a team.

Best of three sets for singles and doubles.

occur simultaneously, top 2 singles players must play 1-2 and 1st doubles must be better than 2nd

Kansas HS tennis - no head to head matches - all tournaments and meets. 2 singles matches and 2 doubles matches (6 players in set positions). Length of match depends upon tournament director as well as court space and time. Usually 8 game (sometimes no-ad). The good tournaments are best of three sets.

Wow, I like that. Can you tell me more about how it works, like how often you have tournaments and meets, how long your season is, etc...

Piedmont area of North Carolina.

Boys and girls are separate (boys are a spring team, girls are a fall team).

6 singles matches, 3 doubles matches (varsity). Each match counts one point, so team matches are best-of-9. Players can play both singles and doubles.

I coulldn't get registered over the weekend to join the HS match forum. We are in Ga. and the HS level plays 3 singles and 2 doubles. A seven man team. Georgia is such a big tennis state. We have relly talented kids, who love tennis, sitting the bench, or worse yet being cut... The goal of HS sports is supposedly to PROMOTE sports, fitness, team values, lifetime athletic involvement....the list is endless! Anyway I need advice on getting the initiative to move to a 12 member playing team .(Many of the respondants this weekend were from states w/ 6 singles 3 dbs hence 12 players) Are there any articles on how/when other states made the change etc.. ANY advice would be welcome! I am flying blind at this point. Thanks!!!!
