View Full Version : Question about poly tension...

Do you guys think stringing a poly at a higher tension makes it playable longer, i.e. does it take longer to go dead? Or does it not matter how high or low you string it in terms of how long it's playable, i.e. do low tensions and high tensions still take the same amount of hitting to become "dead"?

I ask because I have liked poly at low or medium tension in the past but I want the string to last a bit longer. Does it matter how tight I string it for this effect?

Bump. This is a simple question.

On the polys I've used, tension very much matters: if I string them too tight they are boardy and fairly unplayable. If I string too low they start out okay, but become uncontrollable mush after a few hours.

I have gone to stringing at tensions right at or just above (1/2 lb.) my favorite tension so that when the tension drops playability remains longer.

High tension + Poly = arm problems and no feel.

If you want to increase the life of the string at the same tension, you may find pulling the tension slower or pre-stretching more beneficial. The playability changes either way.
