View Full Version : Monte Carlo telecast: Can you see the ball on your TV?
I've been trying to watch The Tennis Channel telecast of the matches in Monte Carlo, but I can't see the ball once it is served. It looks like 2 players swinging at thin air. I have an 50" HD set, but the Tennis Channel is not available in HD from Comcast where I live.
Anyone else having the same problem?

I have DirectTV and I CANNOT see the ball either. Think the coverage is too far away. Cameras need to be closer to the courts like at the French Open.

It was better the last two days than the start of the tournament. Maybe TTC is actually reading this forum. :-)

My take on this issue is that the quality (resolution) of the cameras is too poor. The picture looks pixelated.

It depends on the time of day. The early matches when the sun is out and bright, I can't see the ball except right before a player hits it. When it's very cloudy or towards the evening when shadows are cast over the court, it's much easier to see. I'd kill for Tennis Channel to begin HD broadcasts but I don't see that happening without huge backing or possibly when cable goes completely digital.

Yes, the matches in the Center Court have really poor quality...it's really hard to see the ball...the camera is too far away from the court...the matches in the Court des Principes have better definition, since the camera is closer to the court...

The cameras are way too high to be able to see the ball. Sometimes they bring it down and then you can follow it. I get a nose bleed everytime I watch it.
You would think they'd know this. :-?
For many years I have watched this tournament. The ball visibility on TV was so poor and never improve.

Nope, can't see it at all. The only time that I can is when they rarely shift the camera to the lower one.

I see the ball but it isn't as clear as I want. It also makes Nadal look more vulnerable as you can't see all the topspin Nadal uses. Every shot looks attackable from a higher angle.

I having the same problem. distant camera+bright sun on clay+yellow ball= fail

Nope, can't see it... Only when they show the player-level camera can I see the ball well.

Finally...today...semi-final round....after a whole week....
An old friend showed up for the tennis match....THE TENNIS BALL!!!.
Canīt believe this guys are actually charging people to watch Monte-Carlo on TV, we should consider a class action, I mean, until today nothing could be seen, itīs like theyīre charging me for using my imagination!!!!

If you have directv and are watching the HD channel it seems to be showing up just fine.

it's much worse this year. I didn't have this problem last year but it really is AWFUL quality, not because the camera is too far but the actual resolution/pixelation. It's better now and if you adjust your TV settings you can improve it greatly.
