currently playing with the 90, seems to have a too small sweet spot, but im not struggling to play with it at all, other than my 2hbh has been a mess since the switch. i was wondering how the rds 001 mid compares to it? i know they are both 90s with 16x18 string patterns, but what about power, sweet spot size, etc? thanks im a 5.0+ aggressive baseliner if that helps.

i would go with the weed 122 inch racket that easy ed torres uses. or whatever roman uses since he should be pro

I actually just demoed both the rds 001 mid (2008 ) and the k90. I found the rds 001 to be a better frame all around (for me). It swung significantly lighter than the k90-- which allowed good racket head speed and great maneuverability at net. Acess to spin is also great, power is low-- but if you are playing at the 5.0 level i doubt that is an issue.

I felt the k90 was just a tad too demanding. The sweetspot was MUCH smaller than that on the rds-- and while it plowed through the ball better-- it required a lot more work to get good results. The sweet spot is pretty small-- where as on the rds... its is pretty big.

Actually, the K90 has a 16x19 string pattern.

I play with the RDS mid (for about a year now) and demoed the K90 recently. I found them actually to be very similar, more so than I would have ever guessed. The K90 is flexier and more forgiving, but the RDS feels a bit more "consistent" around the stringbed. I think the sweetspot for the RDS is larger, but not quite as sweet as the K90. With the RDS, it's a more uniform feel all around.

Power-wise, the RDS is lower powered. However, the control and accuracy that I get out of it is incredible. I would say that it would definitely be worth a demo of the RDS for you. The differences are noticeable enough that you should be able to tell almost right away if the switch is worthwhile.

a larger frame might help you with the small sweet spot problem and might help out your backhand

You should try using a mid plus and shy away from mids if you are having problems hitting the sweetspot consistently and having issues with your backhand. The main problem I think you are having is that you are using a midsize frame.

I believe you said you're a 5.0, so imagine you can find the sweetspot w/ either a mid or midplus.

Personally after leaving mids for the last year or so, I've found I get more racquet head speed and spin w/ the mid even though it was heavier. Plus the serve just feels so much better.

Anyway, I've tried and hit w/ a friends k90. It seems a little tighter string pattern than 001, which for me led to favor 001. I also feel that I get a little easier swing and more power w/ 001. I know Hewitt has a 2h-BH, but both are awesome for 1h-BH. I'm talking about 2006 version; from what I've read 08 version's plays similar. 06 version can be had for cheap though on the-bay.

thanks for the advice everybody, the 08 yonex rds 001(mid) demo came in today, got a solid 2.5 hour hit in with it, and all i have to say is it felt GREAT. Really seemed to fixed my backhand control problem, but im going to give it a few more days, including some practice matches before i give a final conclusion.

At 5.0 level- I believe generaing power is not issue, its more on control and feel.

RDS001 MID - way better compared to K90.
Still prefer the NTour 90 over the K90 as well.

I am actually the other way around than most people on this thread. My game has gotten so mych better after switching to the K90 from the Yonex. My serves and volleys are much better with K90.
