Has anyone had the opportunity to play them? They're like the #1 private school in NorCal and they sweep everyone around them. They're #1 Varsity Singles is ranked # in California, I think. What makes them so good?

Since they're a private high school, they can recruit players. They're able to offer stuff like free or heavily discounted tuition to top athletes in Northern California to lure them to go there. I doubt they're doing much of anything like that to get TENNIS players, though. I think their good tennis team is a result of the area the players live in being pretty wealthy and so you have kids that have grown up playing at clubs and receiving lessons from pretty early on.
When I was playing against them, their tennis team wasn't THAT great, though. They had one or two good players at the top of the singles ladder and that was about it. They would get creamed routinely by schools like Northgate, Monte Vista, Las Lomas, etc.

Do they play Bellarmine? I want to see one of them play Eric Johnson of Bellarmine.

Well as a De La Salle student and captain of the tennis team, I should be able to add some input to this thread. First of all, we are definitely not the #1 school in NorCal for tennis. We are ridiculous in football and very good in just about everything else. That said, DLS tennis is actually one of the weaker sports at the school (relatively). Nevertheless, we are always a very good team--one that usually gets the 5th seed at the North Coast Championships--and we almost always have a quality highly ranked #1 player. This year we have freshman Chris Kipouras who has been ranked in the top 10 in 14s and is somewhere in the 30s in 16s.
Basically what makes us so good is that since we are a private school, we attract kids with wealthy parents, so naturally there will be good tennis players. The only sport where there is really any recruiting at all is football, and even that is very limited nowadays. I only know of one kid who is getting financial aid, Kylan Butler, for football.
So although we are definitely not the #1 team in NorCal, we are always good. And no, we never get creamed by anyone, certainly not Las Lomas or Northgate. When we lose, the matches are always very competitive, like 3-4. The schools we lose to are teams like Monte Vista, Alameda, and Redwood. Those are teams that win NCS routinely.
And no we haven't played Bellarmine, but I know they are always a very solid team.

Wow, well I play #2 Varsity singles for Heritage, so we've played you guys twice. I didn't play the first match at Heritage but I played the second at DLS. My opponent played #2 at the time but I think he's a varsity doubles player. He's of Spanish/Italian decent I believe and his style of play is exactly like Federer's, except he's got a two-fisted backhand. He hits with incredible topspin and has very fast first and second serves.
My score was 1-6 4-6.

i went to northgate, but didn't play in HS and I played for DVC last year. I work at valley vista (where DLS plays) and I used to take lessons from the guy you played. He is a much better singles player than a doubles player...

wow, he gives lessons?? Yeah, he's really good and so is the #1 that played at that time, though he wasn't their real #1. He was also a lefty, kinda short with light brown hair and plays with a Dunlop racquet. I think the #2 guy should be playing #1 tho..

Nah, I think it's cuz they don't put it in their real players because it would be like overkill, lol.
But yeah, it's crazy that one of their players gives lessons. But I was happy with my performance in the 2nd set against him. This is my first year playing tennis on my team and I got 4 games on him lol

wait... sorry for the confusion, but he doesn't give lessons... unless by lessons you mean teaching summer camps :) I'll tell him you say hi though

When I was playing, (about 10 years ago), you (and everyone else) *were* getting creamed by those schools, because those schools had players getting D1 scholarships and had players with high regional/national rankings in the juniors. It hasn't been that way in at least 4-5 years now though (maybe more). Northgate used to have a very serious team, from what I can recall.
Who is the most dominant tennis school in the area now? I haven't really talked to any of my tennis buddies in years. :(

Yeah I can believe that. The schools I mentioned are the most dominant as of right now: Redwood, Monte Vista, and Alameda.
