too fast beyond your ability

to control your racquet,
to control timing the ball,
to control the depth and placement of the ball

or too fast that you injure yourself is bad,

otherwise,

a fast swing is what most of us want because it allows us to hit the ball with pace and spin.

If you feel that the racket is to headlight and you want more of a plow through effect then lead tape would be a good thing to experiment with.

If you are putting that racquet head speed into pace that you can't handle, then: Yes, it is going to lead to erratic play and poor results. If you are putting into spin creation, then: No, it is going to lead to more control.

A fast swing is not bad. However, you have to have your balance and other areas developed to support your fast swing.

Only if you swing faster than you can control, in which case lead tape ain't gonna help. You'll send the ball long every other stroke regardless.

What everyone else has said. A reliable fast swing is essential to playing high-level tennis.

Totally agree. Your movement, balance and swing mechanics have to be well developed to make a fast swing speed work.

Too fast a swing speed doesn't necessarily mean its bad. First of all Pros have extremely fast Racquet head speed running the ball through. The question isn't if that swing speed is bad but if you can control it. Theres no point of having fast swing speed if the contact isn't clean or with no proper technique. I see many people out trying to muscle their swing speed but that isn't good. On the other hand i can see players with form rip through the ball clean with a very fast swing speed.

I think a good point to make is that just because your swing is fast doesn't mean that power is coming from a good place. One should avoid "muscling" the ball with the arm.
