Federer, Youzhny, Gonzo, Murray, Stepanek, Roddick, Santoro, Karlovic....

This isn't really meant to be a poll seeing as federer is clearly at the top here.

I'd say some honorable mentions should go to Hewitt, Safin, Nalbandian, Grosjean, Nadal, and Bolleli. Hopefully this can be a worthwhile thread.

Feliciano Lopez has one of the meanest slice backhands. He's my choice.

Roddick had some mean slices against Bolleri yesterday.

Definitely Federer has the best slice, but Roddick has a pretty good one as well for a 2Hander.

lol, y are roddick and gonzo on that list? my pick goes to federer.

The balls in your court.

Federer I think only has the second best slice. The best slice on the tour goes to the "magician" Fabrice Santoro.

People also overlook Nadals slice. Its pretty nasty as well.

Among current players, Youzhny's is very versatile.
Among retirees, Gianlucca Pozzi had a great backhand slice.

I dont think you can leave out gonzo seeing as he chipped his way to an australian open final. His slice is just so stable for the most part

Federer
10 chart.

I think Nadal's is awesome and when he gets a FAST ball coming at him, he slices it right back into the other baseline like clay-doh

I am surprised more players don't develop a penetrating, low-bouncing slice to counter all the extreme Western forehands. Many slice backhands today have too much backspin, causing them to float and bounce higher than the cutting slice of former players like Edberg and Graf.

Stepanek has a nice biting slice, but my vote goes to Fabrice for variety and gratuitous bamboozlement. Safin will still be having nightmares about Santoro when he is an old man.

People vastly underrate Roddick's ground game. He has developed an excellent slice to compliment a stable 2HBH now. His forehand isn't a huge weapon like it was before, but he's hitting it with alot of spin and better depth.

Watch how Roddick just defends so well with his slice here against Baghdatis.

greatest slice of all time belongs to the losing player here.

Nadal's slice floats too high and lands too short.

I agree. Too many Roddick haters on this board who tend to underrate everything he does :)

Though Roddicks BH slice follow through seems abbreviated compared to Fed or Youzhny..

Roddick's slice bites really well into the court when he has time to hit it. Watch when he hits it against Baghdatis up the line, it skids right through the court.

Unless Gonzo's slice has improved he shouldn't be on the list. When I was watching Wimbledon and Queens last year the commentators during the Gonzo-Tipsaravic match kept commenting on how Gonzo's slice was floating and lacked any bite which allowed Tipsaravic to control it with ease.

santoro doesn't hit a slice BH. but he's still the best.
