Someone once tried using normal spray paint as stencil paint, but it ended up rubbing off onto their tennis balls.

http://forums.about.com/ab-tennis/messages/?start=Start+Reading+%3E%3E and look for the thread titled "Spray Painting Logos!! (help!)."

one word: Solvents. Will do a number on your strings, the extent of damage of course would depend on the sensitivity of your strings. Usually the more expensive multifilaments would suffer the most potential damage.
