Anyone ever had a dyslexic kid who needs to keep score?
After every point she would need to note somehow say, 30-40, so she wouldn't flip it to 40-30.
Anyone have a discreet, fast system for your student to do that?

I mean other than just trying your best to remember, after each (or most) points just pose it as a question to your opponent. Say it with a question mark at the end and theyll confirm or dispute.

is this a serious question? dyslexic kids only get letters and numbers messed up when they're on paper or they see them. not when they think them

Having trouble keeping score in sports is a common dyslexia problem. This is a serious question.
The problem is that the opponents are not as understanding as adults when it comes to dyslexia. When the student I am referring to keeps asking the opponent the score the opponent often acts annoyed or even, when the score is close, accuses my frustrated student of "cheating" to the judge!
I think this dyslexic student is very skilled. It is their intense concentration on the point, I think, that erases the score from their mind. But I'm no doc. It would just be great to have a discreet system for my student to keep track of the score without involving the opponent.

count how many points have been played, and note which side of court your at, deuce or ad, and knowing generally how many points each player has won, its easy to figure out the score. thats what i do when i cant remember. might be a little complicated for a kid to do though, especially in a timely manner.

umm you could always make flipping score cards so they only have to flip it.

Yeah. Make a little me/opponent flip card thing in their non-ball-keeping pocket. Have him/her flip it after every point. It should be quick and discreet.

Thanks for the idea. That is true that she does not need both pockets for balls. If she holds it firmly together when removing it from the pocket it shouldn't get messed up.
Have to think of how the "ad in" business would work. Or maybe if she was secure that it was a deuce situation, she could figure out the ad in or out based on where she was standing when the point was decided.l
We have this problem with our daughter.
Not sure what country you are in,however,we obtained special concession
with our Tennis Association so when she competes the organisers have to provide someone to supervise the scoring. This allows her to try and score but a ref to step in with the correct score if she gets it wrong.
it really takes the pressure off her as we found she was more stressed about the maths than the tennis shots. Now her focus is on the tennis!
We had to write and request this because opponents and parents were being very difficult with her when she made mistakes. We even had a parent suggesting she shouldn't be allowed to compete if she couldn't score properly.
Request to see their policy for children with learning difficulties.

o, i thought they were just a score keeper and not the player x_X. sorry about that.
well at my school we have ball holders on top of the net post and we use that to keep scores during matches. see if you can do that for their matches.
if i come up with anything else i'll post again. was thinking of a roller type thing they have for price makers....not sure where to get one small enough for a pocket though.
