When I practice I do this:
2-3 hours of ball machine, forehand backhands, approach shots, etc...
and then I hit 20 minutes of reflex volleys on a backboard, and then hit 40 minutes of tennis serves which is like 300 balls for me.
So, are ball machines good tools of practice?
Some people think so some people don't.
What's the scoop?
I mean it helps you specifically and you can leave the match play untill you are ready to blow your opponents away.

For some reason I got to say no.

It is better to play with a partner because using a ball machine gets repetitive and in a match situation it becomes harder to improvise on shots.

Ball machines have their place in practice especially for getting consistency in your shots, but to prepare for matches, you really need to be hitting with a partner. Nothing beats the experience you get by actually seeing and hearing shots come off another racquet, and see how changes in pace and angles affect your opponents returns.

In other posts, I read how frustrating it is for you to play moonballers. Now, if you had a partner to emulate that style, you'd be much better prepared for that junk.
