i realized whenever i try to hit a hard flat forehand, my shots tend to go long or go high or both. I've tried to turn my racquet face down a bit to hit a flat shot, but that usually just ends up at the net. I have a semi western/western grip. my 2h back hand is solid for years now, but my forehand is just so inconsistent... any tips or solutions to this?
thanks

Typically, when a player reaches the point of hitting it hard he/she is driving the wrist to the target faster to get the pace. But this naturally opens the face which is why many players "come over the ball"
Another way to compensate for this natural opening is to let the wrist let the tip of the frame release toward the target.
It will be hard to do this because of the many hours of muscle memory keeping the wrist laid back. It is a different technique which requires practice against a wall or with a patient hitting partner.
Hope that helps.

topspin forehand is swing from low to high, while flat forehand drive is swing straight flat through the ball? should the racquet face a bit downward or straight flat? also as for the wrist movement, should i do the windshield wiping motion? would that help?

imagine hitting a wheel that is around rib cage high and your trying to roll it forward. That will impart spin on the ball, of course the racket is coming from the low waist level. Hope it will help you impart some spin on the ball.

Are you lifting your head when striking the ball? Sometimes, that can be the issue.

drop your weight (in other words bend your knees)
and swing through
easy as that

Is it possible that you're just hitting the ball too late or too close to your body?

Watch the ball. Footwork. Try bending your knees.
Ehm, if you have a western grip, why are you trying to hit flat?--I meant, change grip, hitting a hard flat shot with a western is hard.

what does it mean by "hit through the ball?" i tend to hit the ball when it drops a little, not when it's on the rise. I swing it from low to high, some times i try to give it top spin, but most of time the ball flies high or long any ways..
i do also bend my knees, and my foot work is pretty solid as well... maybe i shouldn't swing from low to high too much..
I think fantom may be onto something. When the ball is too close to your body, your arm is not at full extension, meaning your elbow is bent.If you just perform a swing motion with a full extended arm compared to one where your elbow is bent i think it causes your racquet to face more upwards than foward. But yea dont take my word for it,i just play for the sake of loving the game but my weaker wing is the backhand so i thought maybe i put in my 2cents.
Oh and i think hitting through the ball is something like hitting a full stroke as though you want to penetrate through the ball.So i think in other words dont decelerate or end your swing after contact with the ball...but instead keep going with a proper follow-through. So its like...dont hesitate to hit hard through the ball?I know some people tend to just end their swing after contact with the ball.I think by hitting through the ball properly you should be able to get more topspin to keep the ball in?
