I play on very slick clay courts do you think crosstrainers with a dimple bottom would work better. I have tried almost every shoe but these courts are so slippery I always lose my footing.

no dimple (and i know what you're talking about) will ground you to the clay. I have even tried them on very fast hard courts and ended up sliding on the asphalt!

The more Herringbone on the sole, the better your footing on a clay court.

A good clay-court facility will prevent you from using anything other than a smooth-soled shoe on its courts. That means dimples are not allowed if they bump along the sole surface. Brian's right, herringbone's where it's at on clay.

Your question also gets into issues of footwork on clay, which is beyond the scope of your tread design. That said, think about working on your technique of sliding into your shots (giving into the slipperyness).

It's not just clay courts that'll insist you wear dedicated tennis shoes, any good indoor facility would probably require you to do so.

The good indoor facilities don't care what kind of shoe you wear, just about the outsole -- most of them require wearing non-marking outsoles.
